Simplifying simple sequence repeats

(Botanical Society of America) Simple sequence repeats (or microsatellites) continue to be widely used in a variety of biological disciplines, including forensics, paternity testing, population genetics, genetic mapping, and phylogeography. New research in Applications in Plant Sciences presents optimized protocols to identify microsatellites from genomic and transcriptomic data, providing guidance on what depth of sequencing is necessary and, therefore, saving researchers time and money in the lab.
