N-terminal Pro B-type Natriuretic Peptide and High-sensitivity Cardiac Troponin as Markers for Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Disease Risks According to Glucose Status (From the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis [MESA])

We examined the individual and combined relations of N-terminal natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) levels among asymptomatic adults with pre-DM and DM with the development of incident heart failure (HF) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. 5,584 participants with biomarker measures aged 45-84 years were included from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, of which 4,090 were normoglycemic, 799 had pre-DM, and 695 had DM at baseline and were followed for 12.4 ± 3.8 years.
