Artificial Intelligence and CT Image Reconstruction: Potential of a New Era in Radiation Dose Reduction

CT, one of the most groundbreaking innovations of the 20th century, is an important diagnostic tool that dictates treatment strategies and enables vital decision making in day-to-day clinical practice. Despite its enormous benefits in a wide range of clinical conditions and its rising use in this era of precision medicine, concerns about theoretical risks from exposure to ionizing radiation remain. These concerns have  been the driving force for the development of several dose-reduction technologies and strategies, among which novel CT reconstruction methods have received significant attention from vendors and researchers alike in the past decade [1].
