The effect of nicotine cessation on human bone marrow stem cell proliferation and differentiation into osteoblasts

Although in vitro studies have shown that nicotine influences stem cell proliferation and osteogenesis [1,2], efficacy of smoking cessation is still sparse [3]. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand the effect of the nicotine cessation period on osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow derived stem cells (BMSCs) which are the key players in bone regeneration and repair.
