Solitary erythematous, tender plaque of the heel in a young infant.

We report a case of calcinosis cutis of the heel in which both the extravasation of a calcium gluconate infusion and renal failure could have promoted the development of calcinosis cutis. PMID: 24050291 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Wu Q, Yang H, Bo H, Fu M, Zhong X, Liang G, Xu Y, Hu Z, Zhang Z, Jin X, Kang Y Abstract Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after surgery. Because of unpredictable and variable age-dependent physical decline, the incidence, risk factor of postsurgical AKI and the predictive power of estimated glomerular filtration rate prior to surgery (eGFRpreSurg) has not been fully elucidated in very elderly patients. Methods: All discharged patients aged ≥80 years without chronic kidney disease who underwent surgery prior to intensive care unit (ICU) admission from 2017 through 2018...

Conclusions: Some normotensive IgA nephropathy patients with mild proteinuria had impaired renal function at diagnosis. Ischemic sclerosis and fibrous crescent were the main pathological features in these patients. Patients in the crescent group had a worse outcome than patients in the ischemic sclerosis group. Conclusions Our results suggest that other than its antioxidant properties, CoQ10 shows antiperoxidative, antiapoptotic and antiinflammatory potential in protecting renal functioning of ischemic kidney. Furthermore, our results show that renal scintigraphy is a feasible method to detect early changes in renal functioning after RIRI.

Publication date: November 2019Source: Human Pathology: Case Reports, Volume 18Author(s): Joichi Usui, Steven P. Salvatore, Mourhege Alsaloum, Alla Goldberg, Sheng Kuo, Surya V. SeshanAbstractIgG4-related kidney disease (IgG4RKD) generally presents as an active and chronic fibrosing tubulointerstitial nephritis. Recent reports have described glomerular lesions, typically with IgG4 containing subepithelial/membranous deposits as part of IgG4RKD. Herein, we report a case of IgG4-related membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and associated tubulointerstitial nephritis in the clinical setting of IgG4-related autoimmune dise...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewWe conducted a comprehensive and updated overview on complications occurring after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for severe aortic stenosis.Recent FindingsDespite remarkable improvements in patient selection, devices, procedures, and ancillary management, complications may still occur in patients undergoing TAVI. On top of most commonly described adverse events such as death, myocardial infarction, stroke, bleeding, vascular complication, renal failure, pacemaker implantation and residual valve regurgitation, other less common but similarly severe complications may still occur. The...

We present two identical twin sarcoidosis patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. A number of factors may cause carpal tunnel syndrome like wrist anatomy, occupation, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy and renal failure. Although the above factors do not directly cause carpal tunnel syndrome, they may increase your chances of developing or aggravate median nerve damage as it is in sarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis relevant neuropathy and granulomas may be the primary mechanism of sarcoidosis associated carpal tunnel syndrome. Although rare, carpal tunnel syndrome may be a feature of sarcoidosis that may lead to irreversib...

Kidneys are the most commonly affected organ and manifest as nephrotic syndrome with or without renal failure. Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) is a chronic infection of lung parenchyma affecting those with an underlying structural lung disease. Herein, we present a case of C...

Conclusions: There are 4443 people with ESRD in Ireland, 24 of whom are members of the cohort described herein. We observe that ADTKD represents at least 0.54% of Irish ESRD patients. PMID: 31509055 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions: The predictability of the Blue Cross models show how member-specific, regional data can be used to accurately identify patients with a high ROH, which may allow healthcare workers to intervene earlier and subsequently reduce the healthcare burden for patients and providers.
