Practical Strategies for Building and Growing an Effective, High-Functioning Interdisciplinary Team (P12)

A high-functioning interdisciplinary team (IDT) is at the core of high-quality palliative care. However, sustaining an effective team can be difficult. How do you establish a collaborative, team-based culture? Has your team ever experienced high turnover, seemingly unmanageable consult volumes, tensions among team members, role confusion, or less than effective IDT performance? Do you or any of your team members occasionally feel isolated and are all voices being heard? How does your team maintain clinical quality? How does your team work together to solve problems or issues that were causing stress? Whether due to growth, the ongoing stresses of providing palliative care to seriously ill patients, or diverse personalities, most teams experience these issues at one time or another.
