How Can You Harness Telemedicine's Potential? Five models of TelePalliative Care to Bridge the Access Gap (SA509)

Seriously ill patients continue to struggle to access hospice and palliative care services. In the setting of the palliative care work force shortage, our elderly, chronically ill non-cancer, rural, and community hospital patients in particular fail to receive the care they deserve. Telemedicine, a two-way, real time interaction between a patient and a practitioner, has the potential to bridge this gap. The use of telemedicine in palliative care has demonstrated improved symptom management, comfort with care, and patient and family satisfaction.
