Risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and thyroid cancer in primary Sj ögren's syndrome measured using the Korean Health Insurance Claims Database.

CONCLUSIONS: Although pSS is associated with a higher risk of developing NHL, the risk of NHL appears to have decreased compared with that in previous studies. Our study suggests that the risk of NHL or thyroid cancer with SS is not higher than that reported in previous studies. PMID: 31969226 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The objective is, therefore, to examine the relation between co-morbid CVD at cancer diagnosis and HRQoL among cancer survivors diagnosed with colorectal, thyroid, prostate, endometrium, ovarian cancer, melanoma, (non-)Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), or multiple myeloma (MM) in an exploratory population-based cross-sectional study. Material and methods: Analyses were performed on combined data sets from the PROFILES and Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR). Data on co-morbid CVD at cancer diagnosis was extracted from the NCR. HRQoL was measured via PROFILES at a median of 4.6 years after cancer di...

ConclusionsThe long-term overall survival of the patients treated on S0816 remains high (94%) at 5 years. Despite historical data suggesting favorable clinical outcomes in patients with a negative PET2, nearly 25% of these patients experienced relapse events, demonstrating limitations of a PET-adapted approach and of standard frontline therapy with ABVD. In patients who were PET2+, PFS was favorable relative to historical series, but was associated with a high rate of secondary malignancies. Our results emphasize the importance of long-term follow-up in this disease, and the need for better biomarkers at diagnosis of HL an...

BackgroundPrimary Thyroid Lymphoma (PTL) is a rare malignancy, representing only 1-5% of thyroid malignancies and 2.5-7% of all extra nodal lymphomas. Most cases of PTL are of B-cell origin, and 98% of all PTL is non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Case series and case reports represent the majority of the available studies on PTL, with a paucity of large retrospective population studies available for this disease. Due to limited studies the optimal treatment of PTL has not yet been established. Using the National Cancer Database (NDCB) we aimed to evaluate patient characteristics, treatment modalities, and overall survival. This is t...

Objective: To investigate the clinical features of 2nd hematological malignancies post to the initial cancer treatment.METHODS: A retrospective study was performed to analyze the available clinical data of 116 patients diagnosed with 2nd hematologic malignancies after treatment of various malignant tumors from June 1998 to June 2018 at Sun Yat-sen University cancer center.RESULTS: The characteristics of the 116 patients diagnosed with 2nd hematological cancer post to initial cancer treatment were indicated as following: 62 males and 54 females. The primary tumor category was grouped as (according to ICD-10 International Di...

Background: Effective iron chelation and other supportive treatment have a substantial impact on survival prolongation of thalassemic patients, who may reach late adulthood, and therefore, may manifest various neoplastic disorders. However, no systemic analysis of the prevalence of neoplastic disorders in this patient population has been performed.Aims: We systematically analyzed all cases of malignant neoplastic disorders, occurred in a large cohort of Greek thalassemic patients and investigated for possible underlying predisposing factors.Patients and methods: Data of 3652 patients with hemoglobinopathies (Group I: beta-...

Abstract Although use of the term "theranostic" is relatively recent, the concept goes back to the earliest days of nuclear medicine, with the use of radioiodine for diagnosis and therapy of benign and malignant thyroid disease being arguably the most successful molecular radiotherapy in history. A diagnostic scan with 123I-, 124I-, or a low activity of 131I-iodide is followed by therapy with high activity 131I-iodide. Similarly, adrenergic tumours such as phaeochromocytoma and neuroblastoma can be imaged with 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) and treated with 131I-MIBG. Bone scintigraphy can be used t...

We present a case of a synchronous papillary thyroid cancer and a follicular variant of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and discuss the possible diagnostic and treatment dilemmas.Diagnosis:A 48-year-old female was reffered to our hospital with diagnosis „thyroid cancer“. Due to a history compatable of synchronous lymphoproliferative disease we performed a computed tomography, which revealed multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, mediastinum, axilla and abdomen.Interventions:A total thyroidectomy with dissection of the central compartment was performed. The microscopic examination of thyroid gland revealed multifocal p...

Authors: Oweira H, Schmidt J, Helbling D, Petrausch U, Schöb O, Mehrabi A, Giryes A, Elhadedy H, Abdel-Rahman O Abstract BACKGROUND: Population-based data on the development of second malignant neoplasms (SMNs) following the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are uncommon. We evaluated this clinical vignette in HCC patients within the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. METHODS: The SEER database (1973-2012) was queried using the SEER*Stat program to determine the clinico-pathological features of HCC patients with more than one year survival who developed SMNs. Standardized...
