Mean platelet volume: an overlooked herald of malignant thyroid nodules.
MEAN PLATELET VOLUME: AN OVERLOOKED HERALD OF MALIGNANT THYROID NODULES. Acta Clin Croat. 2019 Sep;58(3):417-420 Authors: Sit M, Aktas G, Ozer B, Kocak MZ, Erkus E, Erkol H, Yaman S, Savli H Abstract Physicians and surgeons pay much attention to evaluating thyroid nodules due to the malignant potential of these growths. Inflammation has a crucial role in the development of cancer. Increase in the mean platelet volume (MPV) has been described in various inflammatory conditions. Since some of thyroid nodules are malignant, we aimed to compare MPV values between patients with malignant and benign thyroid nodules after precise pathologic diagnosis. We retrospectively analyzed hemograms of patients having undergone thyroid surgery for thyroid nodule between January 2013 and January 2015, and compared them to those recorded in healthy subjects. MPV was higher in the malignant thyroid nodule group than in the benign nodule group (9.1±1 fL vs. 7.8±0.8 fL). The difference was statistically significant (p
Conclusion Predefined sex-specific bCT cut-off levels are helpful for the early detection of MTC and for predicting lateral neck lymph node metastasis.Ca-sCT did not improve preoperative diagnostics.bCT levels>43pg/ml and>100pg/ml for males and of>23pg/ml and>85pg/ml for females are relevant for advising patients and planning the extent of surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Our study found a significant negative association between diet patterns rich in fruits and vegetables and TC risk, especially among women aged 50 years or older. While high in starchy foods and desserts may be positively and negatively associated with TC risk among men and women respectively, these results require confirmation in other populations. Therefore, we investigated the association between viral...
CONCLUSIONS: SSRS is a safe and effective treatment option with excellent LC and minimal toxicity for patients with metastatic thyroid cancer. No association with increased radiation dose or BED was found, suggesting that such patients can be effectively treated with reduced dose regimens. PMID: 32059183 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionConcurrent radio- and/or chemotherapy in combination with surgery seems to result in improved survival in stage IVA/B ATC, whereas this is not the case in patients with stage IVC tumors. Novel treatment regimens are urgently needed to improve the dismal prognosis of ATC.
eong Park The incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been increasing worldwide. PTC is the most common type of differentiated thyroid cancer and usually shows good prognosis. However, some PTC is driven to advanced stage by epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-mediated drug resistance, which is particularly noticeable in pediatric patients. There are limited options for systemic treatment, necessitating development of new clinical approaches. Here, we aimed to clarify genetic differences due to age of patients with PTC, and thereby aid in developing novel therapeutics. Patients with biochemically and his...
In this study, a highly sensitive and accurate LC-MS/MS method was firstly established for subsequent measurement of PdG in serum of three different female groups: thyroid cancer patients (TCs), healthy controls (HCs) and pregnant women. The factors affecting the sample preparation, MS/MS method, gradient elution program, selection of chromatographic column and internal standard (IS) have been optimized in this study. Compared with enzyme immunoassay (EIA) method, we used LC-MS/MS to shorten analysis time, increase sensitivity, raise specificity, simplify sample preparation, and reduce costs. As a result, the linear range ...
(Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) Nutrition researcher and New York Times bestselling author Neal Barnard, MD, demonstrates how foods affect our hormones--and our health--in his new book, Your Body in Balance. Dr. Barnard shares the science behind how common conditions--like infertility, weight gain, menopausal symptoms, breast and prostate cancers, thyroid problems, and acne--are fueled by hormones that are hidden in or influenced by the foods we eat.
