unquist The goal of our study was to measure the kinetics of human colorectal cancer (CRC) development in order to identify aberrant mechanisms in tissue dynamics and processes that contribute to colon tumorigenesis. The kinetics of tumor development were investigated using age-at-tumor diagnosis (adenomas and CRCs) of familial adenomatous coli (FAP) patients and sporadic CRC patients. Plots of age-at-tumor diagnosis data as a function of age showed a distinct sigmoidal-shaped curve that is characteristic of an autocatalytic reaction. Consequently, we performed logistics function analysis and found an excellent fit (p ...

The surface microstructure, chemical components, antibacterial activity and cytocompatibility of the samples were characterized. The results showed that anatase TiO2 nanogranules (45 ± 5 nm) were embedded into nanopits (50 ± 5 nm) and arrayed in an ordered manner. The in vitro antibacterial test showed that there was a 96.3 &...

Compeán-GarcíaAbstractMicrobially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) has been exploited as an efficient strategy to immobilize toxic metals in the form of carbonate salts. The present study investigated the cadmium carbonate (CdCO3) precipitation induced by an anaerobic granular sludge. The results revealed that anaerobic sludge showed high Cd utilization efficiencies (97.4% &plusm...

The present work aims to evaluate the influence of orange oil on the properties of active films produced from PBAT by solvent casting, in concentrations of 0, 5, 10 and 15 (wt. %) of Orange essential oil. These films were prepared under constant stirring ...

In this non-growing culture the number of colony forming bacteria remains constant or starts to decrease. It has been shown that during prolonged incubation there is constant growth and death of bacteria and certain mutant populations take over the culture. Here we show that the dynamic cell division and death balance can be obtain...

ConclusionsThe results of this work provide systematic data on antibacterial efficacy of miramistin. They also underscore the need in relevant in vivo models for evaluation of antiseptics' efficacy. While the existing in vitro methods can be successfully applied at the discovery stages, it is necessary to use more realistic in vivo models at more advanced development stages. The observed selectivity reversal effect should be taken into account when carrying out the antiseptics’ efficacy testing and surface disinfection procedures.

In conclusion, we propose that LGG can be safely administered to toddlers and older children to manage the symptoms of AGE and prevent AAD. These findings should be considered for incorporation into clinical practice guidelines and should help to focus the efforts of the probiotic industry. In particular, glasses from funnel and panel parts of cathode ray tubes were recovered and re-utilized, thus obtaining GPVFNL and GPVBa enriched geopolymers. The materials were characterized by means of Fourier Transform InfraRed spectroscopy (FT-IR), and in order to...

Cytochromebd‐I oxidase is a terminal reductase of bacterial respiratory chains produced under low oxygen concentrations, oxidative stress, and during pathogenicity. While the bulk of the protein forms transmembrane helices, a periplasmic domain, the Q‐loop, is expected to be involved in binding and oxidatio n of (ubi)quinol. According to the length of the Q‐loop,bd oxidases are classified into the S (short) ‐ and the L (long)‐subfamilies. Here, we show that either shortening the Q‐loop of theEscherichia  coli oxidase from the L ‐subfamily or replacing it by one from the S‐subfamily leads to the product...
