Patient- and area-level predictors of prostate cancer among South Carolina veterans: a spatial analysis

ConclusionsWhile accounting for known risk factors for PrCA, including age, race, and marital status, we found geographic areas in SC characterized by higher than average social vulnerability with higher rates of incident PrCA among veterans. Outreach for screening, education, and care coordination may be needed for veterans in these areas.

CONCLUSIONS: CCIC is an effective means of treating refractory bladder neck contractures and/or urinary incontinence. While morbidity rates are high, subjective patient satisfaction is high. PMID: 32065865 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Stanton WN, Crawford ED, Arangua PB, La Rosa FG, van Bokhoven A, Lucia MS, Poage WL, Partin A, Maroni P, Werahera PN Abstract INTRODUCTION: To identify patients at risk of high-grade prostate cancer using prostate cancer biomarkers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 601 men were screened for prostate cancer in 2012, 2015, and 2016 using prostate cancer biomarkers: prostate health index (phi), 4KScore, and SelectMDx. The first two are blood tests that incorporate several PSA isoforms; SelectMDx measures mRNA levels of homeobox C6 and distal-less homeobox 1 in post-digital rectal examination urine sample...

We report a simple and facile paper assay based on silver nanoplates (Ag NPls) for the colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-mode detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas released from live cancer cells. Ag NPls were prepared via seed-mediated growth and dropped on detection zones within the poly(dimethylsiloxane)-patterned paper substrate. The blue-colored Ag NPls on the paper react with H2S to form brown-colored silver sulfide, which simultaneously decreases SERS activity of Ag NPls. We quantitatively analyzed the color and Raman signal intensity changes in Ag NPl-coated detection zone on the pape...

Conclusions: BT combined with HT can increase the bPFS rates of patients with localized prostate cancer, but it does not improve patients' OS rates.

azanietz The GTPase Rac1 is a well-established master regulator of cell motility and invasiveness contributing to cancer metastasis. Dysregulation of the Rac1 signaling pathway, resulting in elevated motile and invasive potential, has been reported in multiple cancers. However, there are limited studies on the regulation of Rac1 in prostate cancer. Here, we demonstrate that aggressive androgen-independent prostate cancer cells display marked hyperactivation of Rac1. This hyperactivation is independent of P-Rex1 activity or its direct activators, the PI3K product PIP3 and Gβγ subunits. Furthermore, we...

AbstractGiven a joint model and its parameters, Bayesian individual dynamic prediction (IDP) of biomarkers and risk of event can be performed for new patients at different landmark times using observed biomarker values. The aim of the present study was to compare IDP, with uncertainty, using Stan 2.18, Monolix 2018R2 and NONMEM 7.4. Simulations of biomarker and survival were performed using a nonlinear joint model of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics and survival in metastatic prostate cancer. Several scenarios were evaluated, according to the strength of the association between PSA and survival. For various landmar...

ConclusionsWe observed that age and BMI did not influence systemic exposure in patients treated with enzalutamide. No relation of exposure with efficacy or fatigue was observed. Further research using enzalutamide at a lower dose is needed to understand the relation of enzalutamide exposure and fatigue.

PROSTATE cancer is the most common type of cancer in men in Britain, with more than 40,000 new cases diagnosed each year. For a man who experiences an unusual habit at night, it could mean they're at risk. What is it?
