Esophageal actinomycosis mimicking a carcinoma.

Esophageal actinomycosis mimicking a carcinoma. Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2020 Jan 21;112: Authors: Ruiz Rebollo ML, González Obeso E, Burgueño Gómez B, Santos Fernández J Abstract A 75-year-old male was referred due to dysphagia and iron-deficiency anemia. An upper endoscopy was performed which revealed a friable mass at 30 to 37 cm from the incisors, consistent with esophageal malignancy. However, the pathology only demonstrated granulation inflammatory tissue. An endoscopic ultrasound exam showed a 2-3 cm esophageal wall thickening with a 1.5 cm lymph node, which was staged as a T2-3 N1 esophageal tumor. A CT-scan also identified a 7.5 cm esophageal malignancy surrounded by several large pathological lymph nodes. PMID: 31960679 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study compared biointeractivity (pH of soaking water and calcium ions), porosity, water sorption, solubility, compressive strength, lap shear strength, as well as the apatite forming ability of three calcium silicate-based capping materials: Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine (BD) and Tech Biosealer capping (BS).MethodsOne hundred and five discs of the tested materials were prepared in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions. The materials' pastes were placed in Teflon molds and allowed to set before testing. The pH and Ca+2 ions were measured by a potentiometric method. Porosity, water sorptio...

CONCLUSION: The best of our knowledge it is the third description of brachial plexus schwannoma associated with breast cancer and the first with a synchronous association. The knowledge of this pathology and its potential to alter treatment justify the reporting of the present case. PMID: 32083563 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Hessam S, Bechara FG Abstract Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (HS/AI) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Several studies showed that perianal, perineal and gluteal involvement is more common in men. Axillary, submammary and inguinal localizations seem to be more prevalent in women. Involvement of the genitoanal region is associated with a higher reduced quality of live and sexual health compared to other locations. Moreover HS/AI in the genitoanal region can lead to serious complications. The knowledge of perianal fistula formation, pubogenital lymphedema and squamous cell carcinoma, w...

We report a patient carrying a novel pathogenic variant p.(Tyr101Cys) in ISCA1 leading to MMDS type 5. He initially presented a psychomotor regression with loss of gait and language skills and a tetrapyramidal spastic syndrome. Biochemical analysis of patient fibroblasts revealed impaired lipoic acid synthesis and decreased activities of complex I and II of respiratory chain. While ISCA1 is involved in mitochondrial machinery of iron-sulfur cluster biogenesis, these dysfunctions are secondary to impaired maturation of mitochondrial proteins containing the [4Fe-4S] clusters. Expression and purification of the human ISCA1 sh...

The objective of this work has been to develop a template for the design and characterization of dried nanoemulsion (NE) for oral administration of hydrophobic compounds. A rational optimization of the nanosystem using an experimental design was performed to achieve stable NE of 100 nm with a neutral surface potential. NE were able to efficiently encapsulate the model drug tacrolimus, providing a sustained drug release in both simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and simulated intestinal fluid in fasted state (FaSSIF-V2). To improve long-term physical stability and overcome the major challenge related with the production o...

In this study, a pristine biochar (BC) and Fe-Mn binary oxide-biochar (FMBC) were prepared using Pennisetum sp. straw as the feedstock for Cd(II) removal from aqueous solutions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and specific surface area (SSA) analyses revealed the physico-chemical characteristics of the pristine and designer adsorbents, suggesting that an ultrasonic treatment during synthesis enhanced the SSA and pore volume of the BC, and assisted succes...

This study aims to investigate the removal efficiency and mechanism of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and fate of corresponding sul genes in an electrolysis-integrated tidal flow constructed wetland system (EC-TFCWs). Compared with the single-stage TFCWs, excellent SMX removal was obtained in EC-TFCWs (increased by nearly 20%) owing to synergistic effect of electrolysis-integrated microbial degradation and flocculation. However, SMX removal in EC-TFCWs can be affected by electrode materials with iron electrode higher removal (average removal efficiency = 81.86%) than that of graphite electrode (average removal efficiency = 77.83%)...
