Seroprevalence, risk factors and comorbidities associated with Helicobacter pylori infection amongst children receiving care at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center

Conclusion: The seroprevalence ofH. pylori antibodies was lower compared to most developing countries. Keeping a dog, household size, indoor tap water, fathers ’ occupation and diabetes mellitus type 1 were found to be independent predictors of presence ofH. pylori antibodies. Keywords:Helicobacter Pylori.

HaefeliAbstractExenatide is the first approved glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist subcutaneously or intramuscularly injected for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Typical therapeutic plasma concentrations are in the low pg/mL range therefore requiring ultra-sensitive quantification. To enable the accurate evaluation of pharmacokinetic studies, we established a UPLC-MS/MS assay with a lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) of 5 pg/mL (1.2 pM) using 20...

Authors: Di Lullo L, Bellasi A, Guastamacchia E, Triggiani V, Ronco C, Lavalle C, Di Iorio BR, Russo D, Cianciolo G, La Manna G, Settembrini S Abstract Diabetes mellitus, with its complications, is one of the major health problems in economically developed countries and its prevalence is constantly increasing. Kidneys and heart involvement represent main comorbidities in diabetic patients often leading to organ's failure. The treatments available until a few years ago are often associated with hypoglycemia, weight gain, gastro-intestinal disorders and other side effects together with serious averse effects on renal...

Authors: De Vecchis R, Paccone A, Di Maio M Abstract BACKGROUND: The MacNew questionnaire in its original version is a diagnostic tool which consists of a number of questions answered on a seven-point scale. Among the multiple possible choices, each marked by a box, the examined patient will have to tick only one. In fact, more than one answer for each proposed question is not allowed, for the formulation of the final score. Global and subscale( physical, social and emotional subscales) scores are computed by dividing the sum of the scores achieved for each individual item by the number of items listed in the quest...

CONCLUSION: The best of our knowledge it is the third description of brachial plexus schwannoma associated with breast cancer and the first with a synchronous association. The knowledge of this pathology and its potential to alter treatment justify the reporting of the present case. PMID: 32083563 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Murugesan, Banoth Karan KumarAbstractα-amylase enzyme hydrolyses carbohydrate into glucose is known to be an important molecular target for type 2 Diabetes mellitus. In the course of developing α-amylase enzyme inhibitors, we designed, synthesized seventeen novel quinoline bearing proline analogs, subsequently physico-chemical properties of designed analogs were also in silico predicted for their drug likeness evaluation. Synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral...

Authors: Hessam S, Bechara FG Abstract Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (HS/AI) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Several studies showed that perianal, perineal and gluteal involvement is more common in men. Axillary, submammary and inguinal localizations seem to be more prevalent in women. Involvement of the genitoanal region is associated with a higher reduced quality of live and sexual health compared to other locations. Moreover HS/AI in the genitoanal region can lead to serious complications. The knowledge of perianal fistula formation, pubogenital lymphedema and squamous cell carcinoma, w...

In this study, we will investigate the therapeutic effects of berberine (BBR) in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) induced chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). Furthermore, potential mechanisms of BBR in regulating IRF8-IFN-γ signaling axis will also be investigated.Materials and methodsH. pylori were utilized to establish CAG model of rats. Therapeutic effects of BBR on serum supernatant indices, and histopathology of stomach were analyzed in vivo. Moreover, GES-1 cells were infected by H. pylori, and intervened with BBR in vitro. Cell viability, morphology, proliferation, and quantitative analysis were detected by high-...

Authors: Shiroma PR, Velasquez T, Usset TJ, Wilhelm JH, Thuras P, Baltutis E Abstract INTRODUCTION: Obesity is prevalent among users of Veteran's Health Administration services, where it is comorbid with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, colon, and breast cancer. Among obese subjects, severe obesity represents a subpopulation with the highest risk of depression. We investigate the antidepressant effect of a local VA weight management program (Managing Overweight Veterans Everywhere - MOVE) among depressed veterans with severe obesity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a...

The mucus and mucins are essential mediators of the innate immune system, however in the last decades mucins have been identified even as an important class of cancer biomarkers. Luminogenic materials with fluorescence turn-on behavior are becoming promising materials because of their advantages of label free, relativel...
