Factors influencing the uptake of influenza vaccination in African American patients with heart failure: Findings from a large urban public hospital

Influenza infection has been linked to increased risk of hospitalizations, more severe disease course and increased risk of mortality in patients with heart failure (HF).1,2 There is evidence to suggest that annual influenza vaccination may prevent acute heart failure exacerbation episodes and improve survival.1,3 Thus, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends annual flu vaccination for all persons aged ≥6 months who do not have contraindications to vaccination and have certain high-risk conditions including heart failure.
