Here, we report two confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV pneumonia with chest computed tomography findings of multiple regions of patchy consolidation and ground-glass opacities in both lungs. These findings were characteristically located along the bronchial bundle or subpleural lungs. PMID: 32056397 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The number of cases of COVID-19 has surged nearly 10-fold from the previous day in China’s Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak. The number of new deaths also increased dramatically, to 242. Officials explained the uptick Thursday by saying they had reclassified how they were diagnosing and counting cases of COVID-19. Health officials reported 14,840 new cases—reversing several days of declines in official new diagnoses in the province. Officials in China’s Hubei province revealed Thursday that new cases of COVID-19 had surged nearly 10-fold from the day before—reversing days of declines that experts said were a positive sign for the containment of the virus. Observers say this could be a step in the right direction and lead to a better picture of the situation in the province at the epicenter of the outbreak. Ho...

(Science China Press) The pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019 was caused by a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was found to belong to Betacoronavirus and share with SARS/SARS-like coronaviruses a common ancestor resembling bat coronavirus HKU9-1. While bats were likely its native host, modeling of spike protein showed a strong affinity to human ACE2 molecule, presenting the first evidence for human transmission throught the same infection mechanism of 2003 SARS-CoV, e.g. spike - ACE2 interaction.
