This study aimed to investigate whether Ononis spinosa L. has a litholytic effect on kidney stones with different chemical patterns.Materials and MethodsUrinary stones extracted from seven patients over 18 years of age during surgery were used as the study material. Each urinary stone was divided into two parts, one of which was left in a solution prepared with O. spinosa L. and the other constituted the control sample. The amount of calcium, phosphor and uric acid passing through each solution was detected by spectrophotometric analysis to assess its efficiency and determine whether or not the urinary stones were dissolve...

Abstract Xanthinuria is a rare genetic metabolic disorder, the biochemical mechanism of xanthinuria is the disturbance of purine to uric acid metabolism due to the deficiency of xanthine dehydrogenase/xanthine oxidase (XDH/XO) and aldehyde oxidase 1 (AOX1). Xanthinuria has large clinical variability and only about half of all patients have urolithiasis. In this article, we present one xanthinuria case from an unrelated family, which diagnosed by clinical, biochemical and finally confirmed by molecular genetics. One mutation in XDH gene c.2737C>T (p.R913W) and another mutation in SEPT9 gene (c.655C>T (p.R219W...

The structure and physicochemical properties of APS and Se-APS were investigated through transmission electron microscopy–energy dispersive spectroscopy mapping, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, nano-zetasizer analysis, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. APS and Se-APS ...

ConclusionsResults obtained corroborate the reports of the traditional use of the decoction of Cissus gongylodes. Besides, it showed multi-target mechanisms actions, inhibition of the main inflammatory pathways, and inhibition/dissolution of the most prevalent types of crystals on urolithiasis. These actions make the decoction a promissory source to the development of new and more efficient drugs.Graphical abstract

ConclusionsLMICs lack enough training opportunities and urologists to care for their population. There is disconnect between the needs identified by local and visiting urologists. International collaborations should target broader interventions in LMICs to address local priorities such as diagnostic studies, support staff and financial support.
