The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of supportive periodontal therapy (i.e. scaling and rooth planning, SRP) alone versus a chemical device silica dioxide (SiO2) colloidal solutions (SDCS) used in association with SRP in the treatment of chronic periodontitis in adult patients. A total of 20 patients with a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis (40 localized chronic periodontitis sites) in the age group of 35 to 55 were selected. None of these patients have previously received any surgical or non-surgical periodontal therapy and demonstrated radiographic evidence of moderate bone loss. Two non-adjacent sit...

We describe, in this article, the hinged joint distraction technique. A total of 50 patients with posttraumatic ankle osteoarthritis with a mean age of 40.0±8.5 years were included in a prospective randomized study: 25 patients in ankle debridement alone group and 25 patients in debridement and hinged ankle distraction group. The mean follow-up was 46±12 months (range: 36 to 78 mo). The clinical and radiographic outcomes were evaluated at the 6-month and 3-year follow-up using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hindfoot score, SF-36 quality of life score,...

This study aimed to investigate a series of patients diagnosed with LTBI during screening before immunosuppressive therapy, describing how the use of diagnostic tests and treatment evolved over time. This retrospective cohort study included all individuals diagnosed with LTBI during screening before intended immunosuppressive therapy in a tertiary care hospital between January 2000 and December 2017. Evidence for LTBI, including history, tuberculin skin test (TST), QuantiFERON (QFT) result and suggestive lesions on chest radiography (CXR), and CT scan if available, was analyzed. The study included 295 individuals with LTBI...

ConclusionThe present study found a correlation between OJ and OB and periodontal disease, as measured using specific parameters. This indicates that periodontal treatment may be insufficient unless the overjet or overbite is corrected.

Conclusions: Even with the absence of subjective urinary symptoms, subclinical urologic impairments can be observed in a significant number of patients with ISC. An abnormal UDS finding can be a sign of underlying spinal cord tethering in a patient with ISC who is a candidate for corrective spine surgery even though it is an independent variant and is not exclusive to candidates for surgery. This finding has high clinical utility for neuro- and ortho-spine surgeons who aim to correct scoliosis (OR, 4.2; p =0.009). PMID: 32066207 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionThis is the largest reported series of outcomes following primary THA/TKA in PDB patients. PDB patients are not at increased risk of surgical complications following primary THA or TKA compared with the general population.Graphical abstractAnteroposterior radiograph of the pelvis of patient with PDB and treated with a cemented total hip arthroplasty.

no MS Abstract Thermal neutron attenuation capacity of Li4SiO4 was evaluated to assess its potential capabilities as a beam shaping material for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) facilities. Samples of Li4SiO4 were prepared by two different synthesis methods, using different raw materials and were characterized using x-ray, electron diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Neutron measurements were performed at the BNCT and the neutron radiography facilities of Centro Atómico Bariloche. Considering its natural isotopic abundance, Li4SiO4 proved to be remarkably effective in comparison with other...

AbstractPurposeA radiographic overlap of the lateral femoral condyle and the lateral tibial spine ( ‘tibial spine sign’) might indicate lateral compartment cartilage damage and might be considered a contraindication for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Therefore, the following research questions were asked: (1) does the presence of a ‘tibial spine sign’ on radiographs correlate wi th cartilage lesions on the medial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle on corresponding MRIs?; (2) do cartilage lesions on the medial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle indicate cartilage damage in the centra...
