Introduction: Bioelectrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA) is a non-invasive method for measuring body composition. The “InForma” trial has been designed to measure improvement of adherence to a healthy diet and/or to increase physical activity in order to promote weight loss in overweight or obese breast cancer survivors. Breast cancer survivors frequently face progressive weight gain and diminution of physical activity.

Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women and the 5-year survival rate is 82% in Europe. Obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes are associated with an increased risk of BC and BC recurrence. Physical activity (PA), Mediterranean diet (MeD) and low glycemic index (GI) or high fiber diets, however, are protective.

ConclusionsThese results suggest that strong expression of inflammatory markers in breast tissue predicts a poorer prognosis possibly due to a system-wide state of chronic inflammation.

Abstract OBJECTIVES: To test the feasibility of adding driving simulation tasks to measure visuospatial ability and processing speed to an existing neurocognitive battery for breast cancer survivors (BCSs). SAMPLE & SETTING: 38 BCSs and 17 healthy controls from a cross-sectional pilot study conducted at the University of Kansas Medical Center. METHODS & VARIABLES: Exploratory substudy measuring pupillary response, visuospatial ability, and processing speed during two 10-minute driving simulations (with or without n-back testing) in a sample of BCSs with self-reported cognitive complaints and heal...

Abstract PURPOSE: To explore the experiences and needs of African American (AA) children and adolescents who were identified by a cancer survivor in their family as providing substantial supportive care during diagnosis and treatment. PARTICIPANTS & SETTING: 5 AA young adults who provided care and support to a family member with cancer when they were aged 7-19 years and 4 cancer survivors from a northeastern U.S. city. METHODOLOGIC APPROACH: Focus groups and interviews were conducted, recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using content analysis until thematic saturation was reached. FINDINGS: Them...

AbstractPurposeTo evaluate breast cancer (BC) molecular subtypes association with reproductive characteristics and an index of cumulative exposure to endogenous estrogens (EEI) in Mexican women.MethodsWe performed a study of incident cases and population controls in northern Mexico. We included BC cases with tumor molecular classification in their medical records (n = 509), and classified them as HR+/HER2− (ER+ and/or PR+ and HER2−) (n = 289), HER2+ (HR+ or HR−) (n = 117) or triple negative (TN) (n = 103). We matched controls (n = 1030)...

In this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-proliferative and anti-metastasis effects of DHA.Main methodsUtilizing breast cancer cells MCF-7, MDA-MB-231 and BT549, cell proliferation, migration and invasion were detected. RT-qPCR was performed to detect CIZ1, TGF-β1 and Snail expression, and the interactions of these related molecules were analyzed by GeneMANIA database. Western blot detected CIZ1, TGF-β1/Smads signaling and Snail expression in DHA-treated cells, in TGFβ1-induced cells with enhanced metastatic capacity, and in cells treated with DHA plus TGFβ1/TGFβ1 inhibitor SD-208.Key finding...
