Authors: Popa SG, Simion AM, Soare M, Arcomita D Abstract AIMS: To evaluate insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis and their association with diabetes duration, control and chronic complications in patients with type 1 diabetes. METHODS: We studied medical records of 181 consecutive hospitalized adults patients with type 1 diabetes. Estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), insulin sensitivity score (ISS), fatty liver index (FLI) and hepatic steatosis index (HSI) were calculated. RESULTS: Patients in the 1st tertile of eGDR (

CONCLUSION: In cSLE, PA is associated with more hospitalizations and aggressive immunotherapy use. Although lupus disease activity improved over time, patients' QoL neither improved over time nor differed by having other autoimmune disease. Prospective, case-control, long-term follow-up studies on cSLE are needed to validate our results. Conclusions: circPPM1F is a novel positive regulator of M1 macrophage activation through the circPPM1F-HuR-PPM1F-NF-κB axis. Overexpression of circPPM1F could promote pancreatic islet injury by enhancing M1 macrophage activation and circPPM1F may serve as a novel potential therapeutic target for T1DM in children.

Authors: Tomishima K, Fujisawa T, Fukumura Y, Ushio M, Sato S, Amano N, Murata A, Tsuzura H, Sato S, Matsumoto K, Shimada Y, Genda T, Isayama H Abstract Follow-up computed tomography revealed a 40-mm pancreatic tail cyst in a 59-year-old man with type 1 diabetes mellitus. An intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm was suspected; mucinous cystic neoplasm (MCN) was not considered because the patient was a man. During follow-up, cyst infection occurred but was improved by conservative treatment. At the 24-month follow up examination, cyst nodules had developed, corresponding to an increase in the carbohydrate antigen ...

ConclusionsWomen in our study with pre-gestational diabetes were overweight, were older and had long-standing diabetes mellitus. Our patients with type 2 diabetes had a higher BMI, were older, had a shorter duration of diabetes mellitus and had better diabetes control compared to women with type 1 diabetes. Women treated with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion had a higher rate of miscarriage with more congenital malformations. The initial inadequate diabetes control was significantly improved during pregnancy.

CTLA-4 is predominantly expressed on activated and regulatory T-cells, which can bind to CD80/CD86 molecules on antigen-presenting cells as a negative regulator. Here, we describe a 24-year-old male born from consanguineous parents with heterozygous CTLA-4 mutation who presented with multiple autoimmune dis...
