Associations of therapeutic hypothermia with clinical outcomes in patients receiving ECPR after cardiac arrest: systematic review with meta-analysis

Therapeutic hypothermia has been recommended for eligible patients after cardiac arrest (CA) in order to improve outcomes. Up to now, several comparative observational studies have evaluated the combined use o...

Amber Rawat, Richa Rai, Anil K Paswan, Vaibhav PandeySaudi Journal of Anaesthesia 2020 14(1):100-103 Conjoined twins are one of the most fascinating human malformations. Here, we report the anesthetic management and challenges faced in performing the successful separation surgery of 4-day-old thoraco-omphalopagus conjoined twins, born at term to a multigravida by elective caesarean section weighing 3.5 kg with APGAR score of more than 7. Computerized tomography scan revealed fused anterior surface of the left lobe of liver with common left portal vein. Confirmation of cross-circulation between the twins was done by giving...

We read with interest the recent paper by Dr. Abazi and colleagues,1 which did not detect a difference in 6 month survival for patients resuscitated from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) before vs. after adoption of a target temperature of 36 °C versus 33 °C among 2899 patients in 69 ICUs in Scandinavia. The authors themselves note that the results of the Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) randomized trial2 may have been misinterpreted by some as signifying that fever control alone can supplant therapeutic hypothermia.

This study attempts to recommend the hierarchy of controls that can be imp lemented in the MRI units to reduce emissions and exposure of MRI staff to RF energy and SMFs. The controls are recommended based on exposure assessment conducted to quantify the exposure levels and self-reported priori-related and unrelated health consequences. In the MRI units, elimination is an i mpractical measure, hence, the implementation of engineering and administrative control measures as well as the utilisation of personal protective equipment (PPE) are recommended to mitigate exposure. Engineering controls include modification of MRI scan...

This article proposes an innovative processing pipeline for morphological and ASL data suited to neonates that enable automated segmentation to obtain CBF values over ROIs. We evaluate CBF on two successive scans within the first 15 days of life in the same subjects. ASL imaging in asphyxiated neonates seems more relevant when used relatively early, in the first days of life. The correlation of intra-subject changes in cerebral perfusion between early and late MRI with neurodevelopmental outcome warrants investigation in a larger cohort, to determine whether the CBF pattern change can provide prognostic information beyon...
