ConclusionsTransplanting kidneys from HCV-viremic donors into HCV-uninfected recipients increased quality-adjusted life expectancy and reduced costs compared with a strategy of transplanting kidneys from HCV-unexposed donors.

AbstractIn a rapidly expanding population of patients with chronic kidney disease, including 2 million people requiring renal replacement therapy, cardiovascular mortality is 15 times greater than the general population. In addition to traditional cardiovascular risk factors, more poorly defined risks related to uraemia and it ’s treatments appear to contribute to this exaggerated risk. In this context, the microcirculation may play an important early role in cardiovascular disease associated with chronic kidney disease. Experimentally the uraemic environment and dialysis have been linked to multiple pathways causing...

AbstractThe dynamic coronary roadmap (DCR) is a novel technology that creates a dynamic, motion-compensated, real-time overlay of the coronary arteries on a fluoroscopic image. Whether the DCR reduces contrast volume and enables safe and effective treatment was examined. A total of 146 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from June 2017 to September 2017 in our hospital were retrospectively evaluated. Chronic total occlusion lesions, acute coronary syndrome, and hemodialysis patients were excluded. Patients were divided into the control group (PCI without DCR, 92 patients, 103 lesions) and the DCR g...

ConclusionsThe clinical outcomes of RePN were not significantly different compared with those of iPN for patients with sporadic RCC of a solitary kidney. RePN is technically feasible with acceptable complication and local recurrence rates with better postoperative kidney function.

Conclusion A lower dialysis dose might be associated with a higher risk of cancer death in patients undergoing HD. Kt/V is a simple indicator of dialysis dose used in clinical practice and might be a useful modifiable factor for predicting the risk of cancer death. Further basic and interventional studies are needed to confirm the apparent reduction in cancer death associated with increasing the dialysis dose. PMID: 32051383 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Obestatin, a physiological opponent of acylated ghrelin, is linked to appetite suppression regulation in mice but its anorexigenic properties in humans are controversial. We aimed to investigate obestatin ’s potential role in dietary intake regulation by examining response to a meal in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients.

ConclusionQoL impairment is a key predictor of prognosis in older patients on HD and may be more important than depression. It is important that teams dealing with this population include in protocols an assessment of QoL, in order to offer a range of care according to the needs of these patients.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is common in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD). However, antithrombotic therapy to prevent CVD increases the risk of bleeding. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of CVD and the practice patterns of antithrombotic agents in patients with ESRD on HD.
