Systematic analysis of lncRNA and microRNA dynamic features reveals diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of myocardial infarction.

In this study, we used time-series gene expression data to examine global lncRNA and miRNA expression patterns during the acute phase of MI and at three different time points thereafter. We observed that the largest expression peak for mRNAs, lncRNAs, and miRNAs occurred during the acute phase of MI and involved mainly protein-coding, rather than non-coding RNAs. Functional analysis indicated that the lncRNAs and miRNAs most sensitive to MI and most unstable during MI progression were usually related to fewer biological functions. Additionally, we developed a novel computational method for identifying dysregulated competing endogenous lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA triplets (LmiRM-CTs) during MI onset and progression. As a result, a new panel of candidate diagnostic biomarkers defined by seven lncRNAs was suggested to have high classification performance for patients with or without MI, and a new panel of prognostic biomarkers defined by two lncRNAs evidenced high discriminatory capability for MI patients who developed heart failure from those who did not. Authors: Hakim SM, Elfawy DM, Elserwi HB, Saad MK Abstract INTRODUCTION: The aim of this review is to examine current evidence on value of new ST-segment or T-wave changes for prediction of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after vascular surgery. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We searched PudMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases for studies examining the relation between new ST-segment elevation or depression or T-wave inversion and MACE following vascular surgery. MACE was defined as fatal or non-fatal myocardial infarction, cardiac death, unstable angina, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure, ischemic pulm...

ConclusionThe final results of this study showed that there was no significant difference between the four study groups and arrhythmia status. Therefore, f-QRS was not introduced as an independent predictor of arrhythmia in patients with acute MI.

This study enrolled an institutional consecutive surgical series of 24 patients with refractory congestive heart failure under peripheral ECLS, related to fulminant myocarditis (n = 15), dilated cardiomyopathy (n = 5), or acute myocardial infarction (n = 4). They were converted to central Y-extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO,n = 6), extracorporeal ventricular assist device (EC-VAD,n = 12), or pump catheter (n = 6), dependent upon the degree of multiorgan failure. Despite the different degree of multiorgan failure prior to the convers...

AbstractCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) pose a serious threat to human health, which are characterized by high disability and mortality rate globally such as myocardial infarction (MI), atherosclerosis, and heart failure. Although stem cells transplantation and growth factors therapy are promising, their low survival rate and loss at the site of injury are major obstacles to this therapy. Recently, the development of hydrogel scaffold materials provides a new way to solve this problem, which have shown the potential to treat CVD. Among these scaffold materials, environmentally responsive hydrogels have great prospects in re...

CONCLUSIONS: In this population-based study, aromatase inhibitors were associated with increased risks of heart failure and cardiovascular mortality compared with tamoxifen. There were also trends toward increased risks, although nonsignificant, of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. The increased risk of cardiovascular events associated with aromatase inhibitors should be balanced with their favorable clinical benefits compared with tamoxifen. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disorder of insulin resistance — a reduced sensitivity to the action of insulin — which leads to high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia. Approximately 12% of American adults have T2D, and more than one-third of Americans have prediabetes, a precursor to T2D. This is a major public health concern, as T2D dramatically increases risk for heart disease, including heart attacks, atrial fibrillation, and heart failure. The development and progression of T2D is affected by many factors. Some, such as a person’s race/ethnicity, age, and gender cannot be modified. Others, including...

CONCLUSION: Especially those renal transplant candidates with a cardiac history carry a high risk for a cardiovascular event post-transplantation. Uniformity in cardiac screening of renal transplant candidates and better pre-operative preparation might lower this post-operative risk. Besides, post-transplant anaemia should be prevented. AbstractAimsLeft ventricular (LV) remodelling after ST ‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) worsens outcome. The effect of sex on LV post‐infarct remodelling is unknown. We therefore investigated the sex distribution and long‐term prognosis of LV post‐infarct remodelling after STEMI in the contemporary era of primary percutaneous cor onary intervention (PCI) and optimal pharmacotherapy. Methods and resultsData were obtained from an ongoing primary PCI STEMI registry. LV remodelling was defined as ≥20% increase in LV end‐diastolic volume at either 3, 6, or 12 months post‐infarct, and LV remode...
