Endoscopic Algorithm for Management of Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Patients With Continuous Flow LVADs: A Prospective Validation Study
Continuous flow-left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) technology has reduced mortality and improved the quality of life in patients with advanced heart failure (HF) refractory to medical therapy.1,2 Despite a significant reduction in adverse events with the latest generation of CF-LVADs, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) continues to be the most common complication and a significant source of morbidity. GIB accounts for high rates of hospital readmissions, with a reported incidence ranging from 17.6% to 61%.
