New grant enables Clemson researcher to further combat widespread parasitic disease

(Clemson University) Clemson University faculty member Zhicheng Dou received new funding from the National Institutes of Health to better understand the molecular mechanisms of the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, which is the second-leading cause of death among food-borne illnesses in the United States. His findings may someday pave the way for a cure for the disease, while having an important impact on the treatment of malaria, a mosquito-borne disease that is caused by a related parasite.
