ConclusionsIn experienced centers, Ross procedure is a reliable alternative to prosthetic or homograft valve replacement in young adults suffering from active aortic valve endocarditis, with a low operative risk and good long-term results.

ConclusionsRobotically assisted mitral valve repair was feasible, safe, and therapeutically effective in the first 100 cases, with a minimal learning curve. The robotically assisted approach provides a high-quality surgical view and tremorless suture/cut handling, which will contribute to further development of minimally invasive mitral valve surgery.

Abstract BACKGROUND: French Polynesia is a French overseas collectivity in the South Pacific Ocean, where data on infective endocarditis (IE) are lacking. AIMS: To investigate the epidemiology and outcomes of IE in French Polynesia. METHODS: All hospital records from consecutive patients hospitalized in Taaone Hospital, Tahiti, from 2015 to 2018, with an International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, separation diagnosis of IE (I330), were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: From 190 hospital charts reviewed, 105 patients with a final diagnosis of IE, confirmed according to the mo...

We report a case of culture ‐negative aortic valve endocarditis secondary toTropheryma whipplei infection. Our patient underwent aortic valve replacement after 4 weeks of antibiotic therapy with persistently negative blood culture results. Despite a technically uneventful operation, the patient showed continued sepsis and was unresponsive to a broad ‐spectrum of antibiotic therapy with subsequent multiorgan failure. He died on the 5th postoperative day, and diagnosis was established at postmortem examination. In this case report, we discuss the diagnosis and treatment of a rare type of endocarditis caused byT.whipplei.

aivio P Abstract BACKGROUND: Recent surgical bovine pericardial prostheses are widely used in spite of limited data on their long-term durability. METHODS: This is a comparative analysis of the outcome of the Trifecta and Perimount Magna Ease bioprostheses from the FinnValve registry, a Finnish nationwide database including patients with aortic stenosis who underwent transcatheter or surgical aortic valve replacement with a bioprosthesis between 2008 and 2017. RESULTS: Overall 2216 patients (mean age, 74.1±6.7 years; age

Abstract Background: Infective endocarditis (IE) is associated with severe complications and high mortality. The assessment of mortality rates and predictors for fatal events is important to identify modifiable factors related to the pattern of treatment, in order to improve outcomes. Objectives: We sought to evaluate clinical outcomes of patients with IE and to determine predictors of in-hospital mortality. Methods: Retrospective single-center study including patients with IE admitted during a 10-year period (2006-2015). Data on comorbidities, clinical presentation, microbiology and clinical outcomes during hospitalizatio...

Purpose of review A thorough understanding of the modes of bioprosthetic valve failure is critical as clinicians will be facing an increasing number of patients presenting with failed bioprostheses in coming years. The purpose of this article is to review modes of bioprosthestic valve degeneration, their management, and identify gaps for future research. Recent findings Guidelines recommend monitoring hemodynamic performance of prosthetic valves using serial echocardiograms to determine valve function and presence of valve degeneration. Modes of bioprosthetic valve failure may be categorized as structural degeneration...

The objective of the present study was to investigate the predictor and long-term outcome of TAVI endocarditis.MethodsConsecutive patients undergoing TAVI at the University of Bonn were prospectively enrolled in this study. Transcatheter heart valve (THV) endocarditis was defined according to Duke criteria. The primary outcome was all-cause death within a 5-year follow-up.Results1448 successful TAVI patients were eligible for the study and 17 patients (1.2%) developed THV endocarditis during the follow-up period (median 294  days). A multivariable logistic regression analysis identified age (odds ratio [OR] 0.90;P&thi...
