BRCA1/2 mutation status in patients with metachronous breast and ovarian malignancies: clues towards the implementation of genetic counseling.

CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide pilot evidence that BRCA1/2 mutations are common in Taiwanese patients with metachronous breast and ovarian malignancies, supporting the clinical utility of genetic counseling. PMID: 31912679 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In this study, it was confirmed that the PRC1 mRNA and protein expression levels were upregulated in high‑grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) tissues, particularly in patients without breast cancer susceptibility gene (BRCA) pathogenic mutations. PRC1 overexpression contributed to drug resistance, tumor recurrence and a poor prognosis. The findings also indicated that PRC1 knockdown decreased the proliferation, metastasis and multidrug resistance of ovarian cancer cells in vitro. It was also demonstrated that forkhead box protein M1 (FOXM1) regulated the mRNA and protein expression of PRC1. Dual‑luciferase repo...

Accumulating epidemiological and molecular evidence has shown that high ‐grade serous carcinoma originates from fallopian tube secretory cells through serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma. The changing concept of the origin of serous carcinoma has provided us a great opportunity to develop novel diagnostic and preventive approaches. AbstractOvarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecologic cancer death in the world, and its prevention and early diagnosis remain the key to its treatment, especially for high ‐grade serous carcinoma (HGSC). Accumulating epidemiological and molecular evidence has shown that HGSC origina...

We present a unique case of OMS related to a stage IIIC high grade serous ovarian carcinoma in a patient with germline BRCA2 mutation, with ten years of clinical follow up. This case report is presented to document the rare association of OMS with epithelial ovarian cancer. Additionally, in this case, OMS and epithelial cancer were successfully treated with medical therapy alone. This is the first report to our knowledge to document ten years of clinical follow up in this context, and to report that the association may not be evident at the time of ovarian cancer recurrence.

CONCLUSIONS: The diagnosis and treatment of peritoneal serous papillary carcinoma may be delayed or may not be performed unless Class III findings are detected through uterine mucosal cytology before surgery. Surgeons should not hesitate to perform laparotomy when necessary to identify and appropriately treat patients, even if abnormalities are not detected in the preoperative examination. Conclusion MTDH is pro-oncogenic factor playing multifaceted and diverse roles in cancer progression. Its association and central role in regulating signaling pathways such a MAPK, wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AkT, NF-κβ pathways in various cancers shows that it plays a vital role in metastasis. MTDH contribution to chemo and radiotherapy resistance provides a new direction for the development of anticancer therapeutics. Multiple mechanisms converge to promote expression of MTDH in cancers. Further studies are therefore warranted to determine whether the elevated MTDH expression has prognostic value for development...

Li Liu, Jiajing Lin and Hongying He* Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Liuzhou Worker’s Hospital, Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Liuzhou, China Background and Objective: Endometrial cancer (EC) is a common gynecological malignancy worldwide. Despite advances in the development of strategies for treating EC, prognosis of the disease remains unsatisfactory, especially for advanced EC. The aim of this study was to identify novel genes that can be used as potential biomarkers for identifying the prognosis of EC and to construct a novel risk stratification using these genes. Me...

This study aimed to investigate whether combining anti-PD-L1 Atezolizumab with BEV may have a synergistic effect and enhance the efficacy of both treatments in cisplatin resistant epithelial ovarian cancer (CREOC). We retrospectively analyzed 124 epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients from Gynecologic Oncology Department of Tianjin Cancer Hospital between January 2013 and June 2018, who all were diagnosed with cisplatin resistance due to progressing

In this study, all tumors were adenocarcinomas that originate from ducts or ductules but infiltrate to involve all components of the pancreas. Other tumors that originate in pancreas may have different properties and a future study of in situ tumor is likely needed to determine whether the tumor tissue retains a structural remnant of its originating tissue. Methods and Materials Histology Sample Preparation Samples of normal human pancreas from five patients and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tissue samples from ten patients were obtained with informed consent and institutional approval (University Health Network Toro...
