Evaluation of Rectal Cancer Circumferential Resection Margin Using Faster Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network in High-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Images

CONCLUSIONS: In high-resolution MRI images of rectal cancer before treatment, the application of faster region-based convolutional neural network to segment the positive circumferential resection margin has high accuracy and feasibility.

ConclusionThe highest reliability of identifying best performance based on an outcome was 57%. However, the balance between reliability and relevance of outcomes is vulnerable. No (group of) hospital(s) could be identified as best performer on all outcomes. Performance was not consistent on outcomes.

ConclusionPerforming a colon conduit in patients undergoing total pelvic exenteration for LARC or LRRC avoids the risks of ileo-ileal anastomotic leakage and may reduce the risk of a post-operative ileus. Besides, there are no other differences in outcome for ileal and colon conduits.

Conclusion: The triple-staple technique is a safe alternative to the double-staple anastomosis after anterior resection. It also effectively shortens the operating time. PMID: 32054240 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: A DNA repair gene score may predict patients likely to have poor response to chemoradiation. This score may be a relevant tool to be investigated in future studies focused on chemoradiation used in the context of organ preservation. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B104. CONCLUSIONS: Although the whole-body PET/MRI was more accurate than the pelvic MRI alone for the prediction of tumor and node response to preoperative chemoradiotherapy, the technique performed worse than CT in detecting small lung metastasis. CONCLUSIONS: The number of hospitals performing rectal cancer resections in New York State is decreasing and volume by center is increasing. There was a statistically significant difference in the mean distance traveled by patients over time. If rectal cancer resections were centralized to high-volume centers, the mean travel distance would increase by 9.5 miles. There would be a 321% increase in the number of patients having to travel 50+ miles for surgery. Any plan for centralization in New York State will require careful planning to avoid placing undue travel burden on patients. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww....

CONCLUSIONS: In a universal healthcare system, young age was associated with increased lymph node positivity of colon and rectal cancers, suggesting that factors other than access to care may play a role in this association. ConclusionThe patient presented represents the first reported case where both next generation sequencing (NGS) forBRCA LOH and MMR IHC testing of her breast cancer were performed and underscores the importance of using NGS including the reported mutational allelic frequency (MAF) and IHC use to predict the likely responsiveness to the recently approved PARP inhibitors and checkpoint inhibitor therapies (Robson et al in N Engl J Med 377:523 –533, 2017, Lemery et al in 377(15):1409–1412,https://doi.org/10.1056/NEJMp1709968, 2017), key because the gatekeeper transforming event for tumors related to inherited cance...
