An Examination of Comorbid Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Chronic Pain on Substance Misuse in a Canadian Population-Based Survey.

CONCLUSIONS: Comorbid GAD + back pain and GAD + migraine have a unique association with nonmedical opioid use in Canadians compared to GAD only, and chronic pain multimorbidity may be driving this relationship. Results emphasize the need for screening for substance misuse and prescription access in the context of GAD and comorbid chronic pain. PMID: 31896273 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Ravalli S, Szychlinska MA, Lauretta G, Di Rosa M, Musumeci G Abstract Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease which primarily affects hyaline cartilage, leading to pain, stiffness and loss of mobility of the entire articulation. Diagnosis is commonly based on symptoms and radiographs, but there is a growing interest in detecting novel biomarkers, in serum, urine and synovial fluid, which can be predictors of disease onset and progression.Areas covered: This review provides an overview of the main biomarkers currently used in OA clinical practice, with a focus on lubricin, a surface glyc...

The objective of this study was to investigate whether the association between family income and adult self-rated health in Canada is causal in nature. The data came from the 2012, 2014 and 2016 waves of the Longitudinal and International Study of Adults linked to current and historical family income data from the Canada Revenue Agency. We used fixed effects models to describe associations between changes in self-rated health between 2012, 2014 and 2016 and changes in equivalized family income between (i) 2011, 2013 and 2015, (ii) 2008, 2009 and 2010, i(ii) 2005, 2006 and 2007, (iv) 2002, 2003 and 2004 and (v) 1999, 2000 a...

Publication date: 1 July 2020Source: Personality and Individual Differences, Volume 160Author(s): Thomas J. Preston, Alexa M. Raudales, Brian J. Albanese, Norman B. SchmidtAbstractTrauma-exposed individuals, specifically those with higher posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), are at elevated risk of developing alcohol-related problems. One mechanism via which PTSS may contribute to problematic alcohol use is poor attentional control (AC). AC theory suggests that increases in PTSD-related distress will reduce AC, which could then yield greater problematic alcohol use. An alternative path suggests poor AC amplifies PTSS, the...

CONCLUSIONS: The 2019 EULAR/ACR criteria for SLE had comparable performance to the 2012 SLICC criteria regarding diagnostic sensitivity and specificity in Korean population of SLE and other rheumatic diseases. However, the new criteria could not reach higher specificity than the 2012 SLICC criteria. PMID: 32083550 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: Testing for autoantibodies against both Ro peptides may aim diagnosis, classify clinical manifestations in disease entities and define prognosis in certain autoimmune disorders. A distinct weight could be given to the isolated anti-Ro specificities in the SS classification criteria. PMID: 32083547 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
