Distal interphalangeal joint arthrodesis using the ADS memory staple – the London experience

ConclusionsWithin our small case series, we demonstrated a high union rate without many of the complications associated with other arthrodesis techniques. We present a rapid, reliable and cost-effective method of DIPJ arthrodesis using a novel new technique with high rates of patient satisfaction.Level of evidence: Level 4, therapeutic study

ConclusionsThe association of rs4867568 and rs143383 with KOA was successfully replicated in the Chinese Han population. Moreover, rs4867568 was found significantly associated with the severity of KOA. More studies are warranted to explore the functional role of rs4867568 in the development of KOA.Key Points• A novel variant near Lsp1p3 is associated with knee osteoarthritis.• Baseline characteristics of the subjects.• Comparison of the genotype and allele frequency of the Lsp1p3, GDF5, and FTO.• Association of the Lsp1p3, GDF5, and FTO with KOA severity.

Abstract The sum of squared score (SSU) and sequence kernel association test (SKAT) are the two good alternative tests for genetic association studies in case-control data. Both SSU and SKAT are derived through assuming a dose-response model between the risk of disease and genotypes. However, in practice, the real genetic mode of inheritance is impossible to know. Thus, these two tests might losepower substantially as shown in simulation results when the genetic model is misspecified. Here, to make both the tests suitable in broad situations, we propose two-phase SSU (tpSSU) and two-phase SKAT (tpSKAT), where the ...

OBJECTIVE: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are associated with mental illness. The risk of serious mental illness, including deliberate self-harm (DSH), in these conditions is not well known. We aimed to determine if RA or AS inde...

AbstractBackgroundOsteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative chronic illness that most frequently occurs in the knee joint. Daidzein (DZ) an isoflavone has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of DZ as a treatment for experimental knee OA (KOA) in rats.MethodAn experimental KOA model was induced by monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) in rats. Thereafter, 49 Wistar albino male rats (250 –300 g, 12–16 weeks old) were randomly divided into 7 groups: C (healthy control); DC (KOA + saline); hyaluronic acid (HA); HA+ intraarticular (ia) DZ; oral (po) DZ; ia...
