A Convolutional Neural Network for Real Time Classification, Identification, and Labelling of Vocal Cord and Tracheal Using Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy Video

ConclusionsWe report the development and evaluation of a CNN that can identify and classify airway anatomy in real time. This neural network demonstrates high performance. The availability of artificial intelligence may improve airway management and bronchoscopy by helping to identify key anatomy real time. Thus, potentially improving performance and outcomes during these procedures. Further, this technology may theoretically be extended to the settings of airway pathology or airway management in the hands of experienced providers. The researchers in this study are exploring the performance of this neural network in clinical trials.

CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with acute CSI at a high-volume academic trauma center, VL was the most commonly used initial intubation technique. Awake FOB and direct laryngoscopy were performed infrequently. No cases of neurological deterioration secondary to airway management occurred with any method. DiscussionNo adverse events were observed during this form of airway management in this small series of elective and fasted patient when performed by an anaesthesiologist experienced in fiberoptic intubation. A gap between fiberoptic bronchoscope and endotracheal tube inner lumen seems to be prerequisite for easy ventilation through the supraglottic airway. In trained hands, this technique can be a means to secure an airway with an intubating bronchoscope without pausing ventilations. A prerequisite for this is a well‐functioning supraglottic airway device.
