Effect of Dialysis on Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Transactivating Activity in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

CONCLUSION: AHRT activity was elevated in CKD patients, while dialysis treatment reduced AHRT activity. Further studies are warranted to specify AHRT activity and to evaluate the precise roles thereof in patients with CKD. PMID: 31887800 [PubMed - in process]

This study aimed to examine the association between the mode of dialysis or the values of sclerostin or DKK1 and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) in ESRD patients. There were 122 HD and 72 PD patients enrolled in this study. By a validated tonometry system, cfPWV was measured and then segregated patients into values of >10 m/s as the high central arterial stiffness (AS) group and values ≤ 10 m/s as the control group. Serum levels of sclerostin and DKK1 were measured using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Possible risk factors for the development of AS were analyzed by logistic regres...

Authors: Wang Z, Gong Y, Fan F, Yang F, Qiu L, Hong T, Huo Y Abstract Objectives: To evaluate the optimal revascularization strategy for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD) in the drug-eluting stent (DES) era. Methods: One hundred and twelve patients with ESRD treated with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were enrolled from 2007 to 2017. All patients were dialysis-dependent, of which 26 received CABG and 86 underwent PCI. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality. Secondary endpoints were major adverse cardiovascular even...

ConclusionIn addition to classical and predictable abnormalities related to the the uremic condition such as myocardial hypertrophy, we found a high prevalence of dilatation of the ascending aorta. Some associated factors are highlighted.

AbstractBackgroundEnteral feeding by tube in chronic kidney disease (CKD) before 2 years of age improves growth. Whether it is effective after this age is unknown. We assessed whether height and weight SDS changed after tube feeding was started in children with CKD above 2 years of age.MethodsRetrospective study of pre-transplant, pre-pubertal children (

CONCLUSION: There is a high CKD burden in the ME countries. There needs to be emphasis on prevention of ESRD and provision of adequate care for the total ESRD patient population. National renal registries are needed to monitor the status of ESRD patients. Health expenditures should be increased to cover all aspects of RRT in ME Countries. Abstract BACKGROUND: Infections remain the second most common cause of death in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). We aimed to evaluate non-specific cell-mediated immunity in an ESKD cohort using a functional assay applicable to routine use, QuantiFERON-Monitor (Qiagen), and assess whether it can predict infectious events. METHODS: In this prospective study, we performed the QuantiFERON-Monitor test in 80 subjects including 54 patients with ESKD. QuantiFERON-Monitor is based on the measurement of plasma interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) after stimulation of NK-cells with a TLR-7 agonist, and T-cells ...

Conclusion: We identified a higher proportion of patients with extra-pulmonary TB in our population compared to the national figure of 58.0% in all patients diagnosed with TB. Despite co-morbidity of patients with CKD on RRT, the treatment completion rates and mortality of these patients were similar to national rates for all patients with active TB.

CONCLUSION: there was a decrease in midarm circumference and serum albumin and an increase in protein intake after dialysis. The peritoneal dialysis patients had higher muscle strength, even with lower protein intake. Resting energy expenditure was not different between dialysis methods and the moments evaluated.
