EP News: Basic and Translational

Zhao and Li (Sci Rep 2019;9:18504, PMID 31811197) determined the effects of the inhibition of multiple cardiac ion channels on electrophysiology using a family of cardiac cell models (Purkinje, endocardial, mid-myocardial, and epicardial). The authors reported that QT prolongation alone might not be sufficient to predict arrhythmogenicity since it does not necessary lead to early afterdepolarization (EAD) events. In addition, mid-myocardial cells are more vulnerable to drug-induced arrhythmias and can develop EAD at slower pacing rates.
