Examining risk factors and preventative treatments for first venous leg ulceration: a cohort study
Only a minority of people with venous insufficiency develop ulceration. Understanding the first ulceration event may help to understand this discrepancy and guide management. Being male, older and receiving anticoagulant or anti-hypertensive therapy are risk factors for ulcerations. Protective factors include venous surgery, compression, and statin and pain medications.
