18 Intrafraction portal dosimetry for volumetric modulated arc therapy

Introduction. The use of in vivo portal dosimetry is widespread for the verification of delivered dose during radiotherapy. Normally this process is used for a whole fraction of radiotherapy, but if an error is encountered, a significant incorrect dose may be delivered 1,2. This is particularly relevant for hypofractionated treatments, which are forming an increasingly large proportion of treatment courses. This work therefore describes a method for portal dosimetry during delivery of a treatment fraction, with prompt notification of a discrepancy.
