Valve-sparing neo-aortic root replacement post Norwood

Progressive aortic root dilatation following palliation for hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) has become increasingly recognized and constitutes a significant issue with potential morbidity. Although little is known about the natural history and the optimal management strategy, currently the indications and optimal timing for surgical intervention are undefined and largely due to significant associated issues, most commonly important semilunar valve regurgitation and/or compromise of the Fontan circulation due to central pulmonary artery obstruction secondary to extrinsic compression by the aneurysm.
