Symptoms of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Unmask Autoimmune Disease

A previously healthy 18-year-old female was seen by her primary care provider after sustaining a concussion, also known as a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). She complained of trouble concentrating, headaches, and neck pain. She is an experienced skier who, after being struck by a chair lift, fell and landed, striking the back of her head on compacted snow. Her helmet was dented as result of the impact. Bystanders reported that she had a brief (10 seconds) loss of consciousness; however, when aroused, she responded appropriately to questions and therefore did not seek immediate medical attention.
