Pilomatricoma in a child: a case report

A 6-year-old female patient was referred to an oral diagnosis service for evaluation of an asymptomatic nodule in the skin of 5 years ’ duration. The extraoral exam revealed a subcutaneous lesion, hard and mobile to palpation in the left side of submandibular region. Computed tomography revealed a subcutaneous hyperdense lesion. Under the hypothesis of Malherbe calcifying epithelioma (pilomatricoma), an excisional biopsy was per formed under general anesthesia. The anatomopathologic exam revealed a fragment of skin covered by hyperortokeratinized squamous epithelium with the adjacent dense fibrous connective tissue presenting hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and mature adipocytes.
