Effect of Sunscreen Application Under Maximal Use Conditions on Plasma Concentration of Sunscreen Active Ingredients: A Critical Appraisal. Br J Dermatol. 2019 Dec 13;: Authors: Charalambides M, Kibbi N, Young AR Abstract Matta KM et al1 conducted a Phase 1 randomised controlled trial (RCT) to investigate whether four organic UVR filters in four commercially available sunscreens (2 sprays, 1 lotion, 1 cream) were systemically absorbed after four daily applications for four days. The filters were avobenzone (2-3%), oxybenzone (0-6%), octocrylene (2.35-10%) and ecamsule (2%). Plasma concentrations >0.5 ng/mL were reached on day one for all four filters, exceeding the threshold established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
