Impact of gender as a prognostic factor in HBV-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma: the survival strength of female patients in BCLC stage 0-B

Conclusions: Different outcomes in OS or PFS with respect to gender only exist in BCLC stage 0-B HBV-related HCC patients. Female patients have a better outcome than male patients in BCLC stage 0-B.

lncRNA HAND2‑AS1 mediates the downregulation of ROCK2 in hepatocellular carcinoma and inhibits cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Mol Med Rep. 2020 Jan 10;: Authors: Jiang L, He Y, Shen G, Ni J, Xia Z, Liu H, Cao Y, Li X Abstract Long noncoding (lnc)RNA HAND2‑AS1 inhibits the development of several human malignancies. The role of HAND2‑AS1 was investigated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It was found that levels of HAND2‑AS1 in serum were significantly lower, while serum levels of Rho‑associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) in HCC patients were significantly increased compared ...

Publication date: Available online 10 January 2020Source: Genes &DiseasesAuthor(s): Yong LiaoAbstractDespite the tremendous progresses toward our understanding of the mechanisms of how liver cancer was developed, the therapeutic outcomes of liver cancer in the clinic have very limited improvement within the past three decades or so. In addition, both the incidence and mortality of liver cancer worldwide are not dropping, but increasing steadily, in the last decade. Thus, it is time for us to rethink what has been wrong and how could we do better in the upcoming years, in order to achieve our goal of improving the thera...

Oxidative stress is closely related to the occurrence and development of various diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular and infectious diseases. We identified six critical genetic variants related to oxidative stress, and evaluated their main effects and their interaction effects on hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced liver diseases. We enrolled 3,128 Han Chinese subjects into five groups: healthy controls, chronic hepatitis B (CHB), liver cirrhosis (LC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and natural clearance. We then determined the genotypes in each group for CYBA-rs4673, NCF4-rs1883112, NOX4-rs1836882, rs301788...

k A Abstract BACKGROUND: There is ongoing search for new noninvasive biomarkers to improve management of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Studies, mostly from the Asian-Pacific region, demonstrated differential expression of liver-specific microRNA-122 (miR-122) in tissue as well as in sera of patients with hepatitis B virus- and hepatitis C virus-induced HCC. AIM: To evaluate prognostic value of miR-122 in patients with HCC in a European population and determine potential factors related to alteration of miR-122 in sera. METHODS: Patients with confirmed HCC (n = 91) were included in the stu...

Abstract Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocarcinogenesis is not necessarily associated with the liver fibrotic stage and is occasionally seen at early fibrotic stages. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are essentially 18- to 22-nucleotide-long endogenous noncoding RNAs. Aberrant miRNA expression is a common feature of various human cancers. The aberrant expression of specific miRNAs has been shown in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue compared to nontumor tissue. We thus examined targetable miRNAs as a potential new biomarker related to the high risk of HBV-related hepatocarcinogenesis, toward the prevention of cancer-re...

In conclusion, our results indicate that lncRNA PVT1 promotes hepatitis B virus‑positive liver cancer progression by disturbing histone methylation on the MYC promoter, suggesting that lncRNA PVT1 may be a potential target for developing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of hepatitis B virus‑positive liver cancer at the early stages. The objective of this study was to establish a reliable and effective nomogram for predicting prognosis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)–related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with postoperative adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Patients and Methods: A derivation cohort of 370 HCC patients treated with postoperative TACE in the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital from January 2009 to December 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed by Cox regression and independent prognostic factors for overall survival were determined to construct the nomogram. Concorda...

In conclusion, circulating microRNAs, particularly the miR-125b, may serve as promising biomarkers for the early diagnosis of HBV-related HCC. However, larger and more rigorous studies are needed to confirm our conclusions.

In this study, HepG2.2.15 cells showed decreased proliferation, G1 cell cycle arrest and increased apoptosis, when compared to HepG2 cells. HBV capture sequencing was conducted in both genome and transcriptome level, followed by RNA expression sequencing in HepG2.2.15. Here, CAMSAP2/CCDC12/DPP7/OR4F3 were found to be targets for HBV integration in both genome and transcriptome level, accompanied by alteration in their expression when compared to HepG2. Among these genes, DPP7 was the only one gene with HBV integration into its exon, meanwhile DPP7 expression level was also downregulated in HepG2.2.15 as compared to HepG2. ...

Background: Hepatitis B virus infection had been identified its relationship with liver diseases, including liver tumors. We aimed to explore diagnostic and prognostic values between the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) complex and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods: We used the GSE14520 dataset to explore diagnostic and prognostic significance between HLA complex and HCC. A nomogram was constructed to predict survival probability of HCC prognosis. Gene set enrichment analysis was explored using gene ontologies and metabolic pathways. Validation of prognostic values of the HLA complex was performed in the Kaplan-Meier Plo...
