Authors: Pang L, Wu S, Kong J Abstract We read the article published in the Spanish Journal of Gastroenterology and its accompanying editorial about the laparoscopic treatment of both cholecystolithiasis and choledocholithiasis in a single stage procedure. We would like to make some comments. Common bile duct (CBD) stones can lead to serious complications such as cholangitis and pancreatitis. So far, there is no standard surgical treatment for choledocholithiasis. Although, there are some ways to deal with CBD stones. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. In the era of advancements in minimally inva...

CONCLUSIONS: Simultaneous CRC and CRLM resections seem to be safe when patients are carefully selected, also considering the risk of recurrence concerning oncologic outcomes. The pre-planning of simultaneous resection is mandatory to plan trocar positioning, procedure sequencing, and patient position. PMID: 32490901 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Ölçücüo─člu E Abstract AIM: The aim of this study was to compare the complications of laparoscopic simple, radical and donor nephrectomies performed in a single center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted on 392 patients who underwent laparoscopic nephrectomy in University of Health Sciences, Ankara Turkiye Yuksek Ihtisas Training and Research Hospital between January 1, 2008 and January 30, 2019. Clinical and laboratory parameters were recorded. Postoperative complications were recorded and graded as per Clavien-Dindo Classification(CDC). All analyses were performed on...

We report on a 31-year-old male patient with non-invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma, low grade of the renal pelvis disguised as xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis. The only symptom of the patient was lower back pain. The initial renal-enhanced computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography showed that the right kidney had a benign lesion and this inflammatory lesion might be xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis. A percutaneous renal biopsy was performed and histopathologic examination revealed a xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis. Initially, we diagnosed it as xanthogranulomatous p...

AbstractPurposeRobot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALRP) using the da Vinci surgical robot is a common treatment for organ-confined prostate cancer. Augmented reality (AR) can help during RALRP by showing the surgeon the location of anatomical structures and tumors from preoperative imaging. Previously, we proposed hand-eye and camera intrinsic matrix estimation procedures that can be carried out with conventional instruments within the patient during surgery, take

DiscussionTrainees ’ trepidation at the idea of using outside assessors to meet increased assessment demands appeared grounded in their expectations for assessment. What trainees appeared to desire was a coach—someone who could break their performance into its critical individual components—as opposed to an ass essor whose role was limited to scoring their performance. Understanding trainees’ receptivity to new assessment approaches is crucial; otherwise training programs run the risk of generating more assessments without added value.

Authors: Alkatout I Abstract Hysterectomy remains one of the most commonly performed gynecological procedures. The distinction between total and subtotal (supracervical) hysterectomy has many facets. Based on anatomical structures, a distinction is made between total and subtotal hysterectomy. In the present report, various factors affecting therapy decisions are examined individually and viewed in the context of the existing published literature. The surgical steps of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) and laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LASH) are described didactically. Medical-ethical aspects of the ...
