Conclusion: Our study determined a promising outcome with reasonable good recanalization and clinical recovery for endovascular intervention in tandem ischemic. In the subgroup of treatment, “extracranial stent first” had more complex disease with completed ICA occlusion which required longer procedure time may lead to worse outcome.

eng Tsong-Hai Lee Ischemic stroke is the most common type of stroke, and early interventional treatment is associated with favorable outcomes. In the guidelines, thrombolytic therapy using recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is recommended for eligible patients with acute ischemic stroke. However, the risk of hemorrhagic complications limits the use of rt-PA, and the risk factors for poor treatment outcomes need to be identified. To identify the risk factors associated with in-hospital poor outcomes in patients treated with rt-PA, we analyzed the electronic medical records of patients who were diagn...

Background: Although the number of seemingly healthy subjects who suffer a minor stroke increases, there are no data on how frequently they sustain another stroke while driving. Methods: A single-center, retrospective study was conducted to clarify the clinical characteristics of driving-related stroke occurring as a recurrent stroke by analyzing data prospectively acquired between January 2009 and June 2019 on 3452 acute stroke patients. Results: One hundred-thirty five patients (85 ischemic stroke [IS] and 50 hemorrhagic stroke [HS]) had suffered a driving-related stroke.

Purpose of review Diagnosis of stroke and understanding the mechanism of stroke is critical to implement optimal treatment. RNA expressed in peripheral blood cells is emerging as a precision biomarker to aid in stroke diagnosis and prediction of stroke cause. In this review, we summarize available data regarding the role of RNA to predict stroke, the rationale for these changes, and a discussion of novel mechanistic insight and clinical applications. Recent findings Differences in RNA gene expression in blood have been identified in patients with stroke, including differences to distinguish ischemic from hemorrhagic s...

In conclusion, isoflurane protected against BBB disruption caused by carbogen inhalation in mice and rats, but unlike isoflurane-mediated protection against ischemic BBB disruption, the effect could not be explained by anesthesia-induced hypothermia.

CONCLUSION: We found that even moderate serum levels of NT-proBNP were associated with the risk of total and ischemic strokes among Japanese whose NT-proBNP levels were relatively low compared with Westerners. PMID: 31932552 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Background and Purpose: Sleep related Stroke (SRS) is common and has been associated with cerebral small vessel diseases (SVD) in ischemic strokes (ISs). We tested the hypothesis that SRS is associated with SVD in both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Methods: Prospectively collected data from patients consecutively enrolled after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) related to SVD or after IS were analyzed. Symptom onset was recorded as SRS versus awake. Each ICH was grouped according to lobar and deep locations.

Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke can occur in the setting of pediatric trauma, particularly those with head or neck injuries. The risk of stroke appears highest within the first two weeks after trauma. Stroke diagnosis may be challenging due to lack of awareness or concurrent injuries limiting detailed neurologic assessment. Other injuries may also complicate stroke management, with competing priorities for blood pressure, ventilator management, or antithrombotic timing. Here we review epidemiology, clinical presentation and diagnostic approach to blunt arterial injuries including dissection, cerebral sinovenous thrombosis,...

Abstract PURPOSE: In China, dabigatran and rivaroxaban are the only approved non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). The goal of this article was to assess the cost-effectiveness of dabigatran versus rivaroxaban for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in Chinese patients with AF from the perspective of the Chinese health care system. METHODS: A Markov model was constructed to estimate the cost-effectiveness of dabigatran versus rivaroxaban. Clinical events were modeled for a lifetime horizon, based on clinical efficacy data from indirect treatment...
