Clinical outcomes following the surgery of new autologous arteriovenous fistulas proximal to the failed ones in end-stage renal disease patients: a retrospective cohort study.
Conclusions: The study revealed that the primary and secondary patiencies of the surgery of new AVF proximal to the failed ones were ideal operations to restore failed forearm AVF. PMID: 31814501 [PubMed - in process]
Myocardial calcifications are often discovered incidentally and result from dystrophic or metastatic deposition of calcium1. Dystrophic calcification represents the sequalae of local tissue damage with necrosis, most commonly from myocardial ischemia. Unlike the prior, metastatic calcification is the result of abnormal calcium homeostasis; including renal failure, hyperparathyroidism, and vitamin D deficiency. Myocardial calcifications are not entirely a benign finding, since they can lead to heart failure, arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death2.
Authors: Zhao WB, Zhu L, Rahman T Abstract Objective: Few studies have investigated the association of apolipoprotein B (ApoB) with the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and the risk of renal replacement therapy (RRT).Method: In this retrospective cohort study, a group of 258 DKD patients with stage 3-5chronic kidney disease(CKD)were divided into low ApoB (
In conclusion, this mutant may be an effective vaccine candidate against scorpion envenomation by H. lepturus in future clinical studies.
Ignoring a problem won ’t make it go away. I say this all the time, with love and compassion, to my patients who are having trouble accepting a diagnosis. Ignoring your Type 2 Diabetes, for example, won’t make it any less real. It will only land you in renal failure and on dialysis, or with a […]Find jobs at Careers by KevinMD.com. Authors: Wang S, Shang J, Xiao J, Zhao Z Abstract Aims: The aim was to determine whether anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive serology in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) is associated with different clinicopathologic features and outcomes. Methods: In our retrospective analysis, 283 patients were enrolled between 2013 and 2018. Thirty-six patients were ANCA-positive, and this group was compared with the remaining 247 patients who were confirmed as ANCA-negative at the time of biopsy. Results: ANCA-positive LN patients exhibited higher anti-dsDNA antibody titers and serum creatinine levels and lower...
AbstractSummaryThe receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL)/RANK/osteoprotegerin system is dysregulated in hyperparathyroid bone diseases. The introduction of denosumab preceding elective surgery as an alternative option when surgery is not possible immediately.IntroductionThe effects of denosumab on vascular calcification in patients with chronic renal failure and low bone mass have been a subject of interest. Therefore, this investigation aimed to determine the short-term changes in vascular calcification after denosumab treatment using a serial electrocardiography-gated computed tomography (CT) to mea...
Authors: Lareyre F, Carlier M, Raffort J Abstract The presence of accessory renal artery is a frequent anatomic variation that can challenge abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. Here, we show an image of an abdominal aortic aneurysm extended to multiple accessory renal arteries in a patient known for an end-stage renal failure. This case raises the questions of the criteria that should be taken in consideration for an optimal management of accessory renal artery during AAA repair. CONCLUSION: A lower SUA level in HD patients was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality and CV mortality. Moreover, higher SUA concentrations may be cardioprotective in HD patients. PMID: 32223483 [PubMed - in process]
