Changes in Corneal Thickness Associated With Variation of Central Corneal Clearance of Scleral Lenses

Purpose: Modern scleral lenses (ScCLs) promote little tear exchange, limiting oxygen delivery to the cornea, possibly resulting in corneal edema. Recent studies have investigated the hypoxic effects of varying central corneal clearance (CCC) in short-term ScCL wear, and theoretical models have been proposed. The purpose of this study was to observe if there were hypothesized changes in corneal thickness associated with low levels of corneal hypoxia in healthy participants wearing ScCLs of different (CCC) over a longer term of wear.
