The prevalence and seasonal variation of Acanthamoeba in domestic tap-water in greater Sydney region, Australia

Purpose To assess the prevalence of free-living Acanthamoeba in domestic tap-water in the greater Sydney region in NSW, Australia, and determine any seasonal variation in prevalence. We hypothesized that higher temperatures in summer would generate a higher abundance of food for the amoeba, and therefore a greater prevalence of Acanthamoeba would be found in summer compared to winter.
