Diagnostic performance of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in assessing lymph node metastasis of esophageal cancer compared with PET

This study aimed to clarify the diagnostic performance of DWI for assessing LN metastasis compared with positron emission tomography (PET) in patients with esophageal squamous cell cancer (eSCC).MethodsSeventy-six patients with histologically proven eSCC who underwent curative esophagectomy without neoadjuvant treatment were reviewed retrospectively. Harvested LNs were divided into 1229 node stations with 94 metastases. Diagnostic abilities and prognostic significance were compared.ResultsIn a station-by-station evaluation, the sensitivity was higher in DWI than PET (67% vs. 32%,P

MicroRNA‑542‑3p represses OTUB1 expression to inhibit migration and invasion of esophageal cancer cells. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Nov 20;: Authors: Sun J, Deng Y, Shi J, Yang W Abstract Dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) is involved in the pathogenesis of esophageal cancer. miRNA (miR)‑542‑3p is a tumor suppressor in multiple types of cancer. However, whether and how miR‑542‑3p contributes to the progression of esophageal cancer remains unknown, and this is the aim of the present study. In the current study, decreased expression of miR‑542‑3p was detected in tumor tissues compared with normal...

BackgroundThis retrospective study compared the efficacy and side effect profile between postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy in stage II or stage III thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (TESCC) patients who underwent curative (R0) esophagectomy.MethodsA total of 272 TESCC patients who underwent radical esophagectomy from 2007 to 2016 were included in this retrospective analysis. All cases were pathologically confirmed with stage II or III disease and 148 patients received postoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT), while the remaining 124 patients received postoperative radiotherapy (RT) alone.Resu...

Authors: Chen LC, Li SH, Lo CM, Chen YH, Huang SC, Wang YM, Chou SY, Lu HI Abstract Background: Systemic inflammation response is a crucial prognostic factor for various cancers. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are two inflammation-based prognostic scores. The significance of preoperative NLR and PLR in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) receiving curative esophagectomy remains largely undefined. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the significance of preoperative NLR and PLR in patients with ESCC receiving curative esophagectomy in southern Taiwa...
