Follicular lymphoma remission for 2+ years indicates disease-free status could be lifelong

(Georgetown University Medical Center) People with follicular lymphoma, a slow-growing lymphatic-system cancer, who have been treated and are in remission for at least two years, may no longer have what has been considered an incurable disease based on highly sensitive testing; this means they no longer need therapy or active follow-up.

Authors: Su Z, Liu HL, Qi B, Liu Y Abstract OBJECTIVE: To explore the influences of propofol on the proliferation and apoptosis of cardia cancer cells via mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) signaling pathway. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 65 surgical resection specimens of cardia cancer were selected as research objects and divided into control group and with low (12.5 μmol/L), medium (25 μmol/L), and high (50 μmol/L) propofol concentration groups. The apoptosis of cancer cells, ERK1/2 phosphorylation level, expressions of Caspase-3, B-cell lymphoma-2 (...

Nine years earlier, the patient had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and undergone rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, oncovin, prednisone (R-CHOP) therapy. This patient previously had had a hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection before chemotherapy. After the chemotherapy, he was administered an LHRH agonist for prostate can...

Bedalov Simon Genetic ablation as well as pharmacological inhibition of sirtuin 2 (SIRT2), an NAD+-dependent protein deacylase, have therapeutic effects in various cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. Previously, we described the discovery of a dual SIRT1/SIRT2 inhibitor called cambinol (IC50 56 and 59 µM, respectively), which showed cytotoxic activity against cancer cells in vitro and a marked anti-proliferative effect in a Burkitt lymphoma mouse xenograft model. A number of recent studies have shown a protective effect of SIRT1 and SIRT3 in neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases as well as in cert...

SummaryAnaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), which belongs to the insulin receptor tyrosine kinase superfamily, plays an important role in nervous system development. Due to chromosomal translocations, point mutations, and gene amplification, constitutively activated ALK has been implicated in a variety of human cancers, including anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL), non-small cell lung cancer, and neuroblastoma. We evaluated the anti-cancer activity of the ALK inhibitor KRCA-0008 using ALCL cell lines that express NPM (nucleophosmin)-ALK. KRCA-0008 strongly suppressed the proliferation and survival of NPM-ALK-positive ALCL ...

Diffuse large B ‐cell lymphoma often presents with extranodal manifestations involving the musculoskeletal system. Shoulder pain is particularly worrisome for malignancy. Individuals presenting with refractory upper extremity complaints should undergo a prompt and thorough evaluation for cancer, as a delay in dia gnosis can result in an unfavorable outcome. Holmes Barrs Beatty Papillomaviruses infect the skin and mucosal surfaces of diverse animal hosts with consequences ranging from asymptomatic colonization to highly malignant epithelial cancers. Increasing evidence suggests a role for papillomaviruses in the most common cutaneous malignancy of domestic cats, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Using total DNA sequencing we identified a novel feline papillomavirus in a nasal biopsy taken from a cat presenting with both nasal cavity lymphoma and recurrent squamous cell carcinoma affecting the nasal planum. We designate this novel virus as Felis catus papillomavirus 6 ...

ConclusionsCollectively, the current clinical data indicate pathological markers of miR-95, SGK1, Erk1 in human CRC cases, and further experimental findings reveal that anti-CRC pharmacological mechanism using genistein was implicated in suppression of cellular miR-95, SGK1, Erk1 expressions. Together, genistein may be a promising bioactive compound for treating CRC.
