Chronic lymphocytic leukemia followed by myelodysplastic syndrome and erythroleukemia.

We present the case of a 61-year-old male patient, diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2007, who developed myelodysplastic features three years later and then acute myeloid leukemia. At diagnosis, the blood tests showed leucocytosis, with lymphocytosis in the peripheral blood and bone marrow. Due to the negative prognostic factors, the patient received treatment with an alkylating agent (FC protocol) and then with alemtuzumab. Three years after being diagnosed with CLL, the patient presented with malaise, recent faintness and fever, with severe anemia and thrombocytopenia. The results from the bone marrow aspirate and biopsy established a new diagnosis: myelodysplastic syndrome. The patient's general condition was rapidly deteriorating and just two months later, he evolved into acute myeloid leukemia, subtype 6, a very rare type of AML. Soon after, neurological alterations led to cerebral hemorrhage and death. A review of literature is also presented. PMID: 31803279 [PubMed]

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is an extremely rare angio-centric and angio-destructive B-cell lymphoproliferative disease. Driven by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), LYG predominantly involves the bilateral lungs. Commonly presenting as multiple nodules in the lung, pulmonary LYG can masquerade as various infectious diseases, vasculitis, lung cancer, or other metastatic neoplasm. It is difficult to be diagnosed and is always neglected by clinicians. No standardized therapeutic regimens for LYG has been established yet now. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a life-threatening condition caused by abnormal activation of ...

Although effective, nivolumab is associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs). However, the occurrence of hematological irAEs is rare. Some studies have reported on nivolumab-induced thrombocytopenia. Nivolumab associated thrombocytopenia in almost all patients improved with administration of various drugs. H...

This study aimed to investigate the effects of ferulic acid on HeLa and Caski human cervical carcinoma cells and the molecular mechanisms involved. MATERIAL AND METHODS HeLa and Caski human cervical carcinoma cells were grown in culture and treated with increasing doses of ferulic acid. The MTT assay was used to evaluate cell viability. Flow cytometry was performed with 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) and Annexin V staining for cell apoptosis. The expression of myeloid leukemia cell differentiation-1 (Mcl-1) protein and MCL-1 mRNA were determined by Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-...

ConclusionsOur results demonstrate that the incidence of GVHD after daratumumab is low and did not result in increased exacerbation of GVHD in patients with prior history of GVHD.

ConclusionT2B2F is associated with a higher incidence of acute GVHD compared to T1B2F. These results suggest that a lower dose-intensity of thiotepa and busulfan in the TBF regimen may yield better results in AML patients in complete remission.
