Shared and unique individual risk factors and clinical biomarkers in children with allergic rhinitis and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

We examined 3,917 children (age 4 ‐13 years) who were enrolled in a cross‐sectional study conducted in Seongnam, Korea. Their parents completed the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ) for evaluation of OSAS and the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire for evaluation of rhinitis. Clinical biomarkers, including total eosinophil count and neutrophil‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), were measured in a subset of these children.ResultsOSAS and rhinitis had prevalences of 4.0% and 43.5%, respectively. Body mass index (P

This study aimed to determine factors that may influence levels of daytime sleepiness and fatigue in a large cohort of DM1 patients followed for 9 years.MethodsThis study included 115 patients with DM1 at baseline (Time 1,T1) and at Time 2 (T2) who were questioned for daytime sleepiness, fatigue, history of depression, psychological distress, pain, hypothyroidism, and sleep habits. Also, their muscular impairment and intellectual quotient were evaluated. Regression models were used to identify correlates of daytime sleepiness and fatigue while controlling for time effect.ResultsBoth daytime sleepiness and fatigue incr...

AbstractBackgroundBoth REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and impulsive –compulsive behaviors (ICBs) are well-recognized non-motor features in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Studies have given contradictory results about the potential association between RBD and ICBs.MethodsPubMed, Embase (via Ovid), and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases were systematically searched till August 20, 2019 to identify studies that explored the possible correlation between RBD and ICBs in patients with PD. Two authors independently screened records, extracted data and evaluated quality o...

Abstract Background: Historically, Iceland has been an iodine-sufficient nation due to notably high fish and milk consumption. Recent data suggest that the intake of these important dietary sources of iodine has decreased considerably. Objective: To evaluate the iodine status of pregnant women in Iceland and to determine dietary factors associated with risk for deficiency. Methods: Subjects were women (n = 983; 73% of the eligible sample) attending their first ultrasound appointment in gestational weeks 11-14 in the period October 2017-March 2018. Spot urine samples were collected for assessment of urina...

In this study we examined the effect of Compound A, N-(2-Aminoethyl)-5-chloro-1H-indol-2-carboxamide a H4 receptor antagonist in allergic asthma mice model. Objective: To investigate the anti-asthmatic effect of compound A in in vivo, airway inflammation in ovalbumin (OVA) induced allergic asthma mouse model was used.Methodology: Allergic asthma was induced in Balb/c mice using ovalbumin. BAL fluid was examined for the level of IgE, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IL-17 using ELISA. Furthermore, infiltration of leucocytes by histopathology and effect of compound A on signalling molecules were examined in lung tissue. Results: In mice...

ConclusionsOSA probably does not influence the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in females. However, OSA, as well as the higher level of dyspnea assessed by NYHA, may decrease sexual body image and sexual performance in females.

In conclusion, the similarity in the effect of the 5-HT2CR-antagonist and chronic SSRI on gamma power provides further evidence for the therapeutic potential of 5-HT2CR-antagonists in the treatment of depression and/or anxiety.
