Upregulation of MANCR predicts poor survival in patients with gastric cancer.

Upregulation of MANCR predicts poor survival in patients with gastric cancer. Oncol Lett. 2019 Dec;18(6):6801-6806 Authors: Yao L, Yan J, Gan L, Huang S, Cheng F, Fang N Abstract A previous study revealed that MANCR (mitotically associated long non-coding RNA) is implicated in breast cancer. The present study investigated the potential role of MANCR in gastric cancer (GC) and revealed that MANCR was upregulated in GC tissues compared with non-cancerous tissues. MANCR expression was not affected by clinical stages and a high MANCR expression level was associated with poor survival time. MicroRNA (miR)-101 was downregulated in cancer tissues compared with non-cancerous tissues and was inversely associated with MANCR expression. MANCR overexpression in GC cell lines in vitro resulted in miR-101 downregulation; however, miR-101 overexpression did not alter MANCR expression. Furthermore, MANCR overexpression promoted, while miR-101 overexpression inhibited GC cell proliferation. In addition, miR-101 overexpression decreased the effect of MANCR overexpression. The results obtained in the present study revealed that MANCR expression was associated with the survival of patients with GC, and MANCR overexpression in vitro may promote GC by downregulating miR-101 and increasing the proliferation of GC cells. Authors: Li D, Li L, Cao Y, Chen X Abstract Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most dangerous malignant diseases among women. A growing amount of evidence has suggested that long non-coding RNAs participate in the development and progression of BC and may potentially serve as therapeutic targets or prognostic markers for the disease. A previous study demonstrated that long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 01140 (LINC01140) was prominently correlated with overall survival in patients with gastric cancer. However, the function of LINC01140 in BC has not yet been elucidated. Therefore, the present study aimed to invest...

Conclusions: The association between aspirin and a reduced risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is supported by strong evidence, researchers and policy makers should pay more attention to the potential merit of repositioning aspirin to prevent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Innovative prognostic biomarkers for the prediction of cancer outcomes and the usage as therapeutic targets are warranted. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the associations between miRNA-23b expression and ov...

This study aims to assess the usability of diagnosis procedure combination (DPC) survey discharge summary data. DPC survey data were analyzed by linking them to the hospital-based cancer registries (HBCR) from 231 hospitals. We focused on patients who were aged 20 years or older and diagnosed in 2013 with stomach, colorectal, liver, lung, or breast cancer. We assessed the percentage of unknown/missing values in supplementary data for patients with five common cancers and compared DPC cancer stage information to that of HBCR. In total, 279,451 discharge data sets for 180,399 patients were analyzed. The percentages of unknow...

In this study, 354 non-synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) of AGT were evaluated to predict damaging and structurally important variants. Majority of the deleterious nsSNPs occurred in the evolutionary conserved regions. Several of these nsSNPs were found to affect post-translational modifications like methylation, glycosylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination etc. Structural evaluations predicted 19 variants as destabilizing and some of them were also predicted to destabilize the renin-AGT interaction. Therefore, the present computational investigation predicted pathogenic and functionally important variants of human AGT gene. The ...
