In vivo characterization of histological and immunological response of allergic protein of Metapenaeus dobsonii using an adjuvant free BALB/c mice model. Immunol Lett. 2019 Dec 03;: Authors: Laly SJ, Sankar TV, Panda SK Abstract Shrimp allergy, a common form of food allergy is an adverse immunological response to shrimp proteins. BALB/c mice was sensitized by an adjuvant free oral administration of purified tropomyosin, from Metpenaeus dobsonii to characterize intestinal histological responses and immunological protein recognition pattern as it is unpractical in human subjects. Sensitized mice with higher dose of tropomyosin expressed symptoms of anaphylaxis including puffiness around eyes and snout, no activity, tremor and convulsion after challenge. The responses of high level of sera IgE, tropomyosin specific IgE and histamine in the treatment groups indicated the increased allergic reaction by ELISA. Sera IgE of sensitized mice exhibited a comparable recognition pattern to tropomyosin by immunoblotting similar to human subjects. Histological changes were comparatively highly affected in the intestinal area of duodenum in the sensitized mice. Hence BALB/c mice can be used as a suitable adjuvant free shrimp allergy model for immunotherapy tools. PMID: 31809765 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionA multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of sinonasal symptoms using both escalation of medical therapy and surgical approaches may improve QOL of patients with suspected MCAS. Consensus criteria for MCAS, which includes elevation in tryptase over baseline during an episode, may exclude the full spectrum of individuals with MCAS from potentially beneficial treatment.

Cow's milk (CM) is a common allergen present in immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated food allergy in children. The management of CM allergy (CMA) requires the replacement of milk protein with alternative protein and calcium sources. Extensively hydrolyzed formulas (eHFs) are alternative, hypoallergenic formulas that are recommended as standards for children with CMA.1 IgE-mediated immediate reactions to eHFs, such as life-threatening anaphylaxis, rarely occur.2 Patients with hyperresponsiveness to eHFs may be at a high risk because they are on a complete elimination diet.
